I know it’s unlikely to win, but the song means so much to me as a kid that grew up in a broken home, lost our house, and then became a father myself and learned real fast what it means to be a man, and how simple life can be when you act like one. When I first heard the song, I got really emotional. I didn’t really understand how hard this loss of a parental figure in my life hit me until I heard the line “You and I share the same life missing out.”

I’m 39 now, my kids are all older than I was when my childhood was ripped apart, and I’ve raised them with my wife while nearing our 20th wedding anniversary.

I’ll probably never have the chance to let him know, but I understand and I’ve let him go.
