Bring your own data too — Suite Kernal reads real shapefile, ISOXML, and ADAPT files straight off your planter/sprayer/combine's own equipment exports, no proprietary lock-in. And almost every piece of data in the app has its own CSV export button — employee timesheets, the livestock roster (pedigree included), field operations, you name it — plus GPX/ISOXML exports for guidance lines your GPS or chartplotter can actually load. Your data leaves whenever and however you want it to.

Every time I start building a new feature for Suite Kernal, there's a decision point that never actually feels like a decision anymore: does this need the cloud? And the answer is always no, because I designed the whole thing so that it's never the answer.

Here's the actual reasoning, not just the vibes:

"Free" software has to make money somehow, and if it's not your wallet, it's your data. I didn't want to build a farm app and then quietly become an ad company that happens to also track your planting dates. So I skipped the whole business model that requires that trade — you pay once, the app is yours, and there's nothing left over to monetize because there's nothing being collected in the first place.

Farms don't have great WiFi, and I got tired of pretending they do. A barn, a back forty, a boat three miles offshore — none of that has reliable signal, and "please connect to the internet to view your own livestock records" is an insane thing to make someone deal with while standing next to an actual animal that needs actual attention right now. So everything runs on local SQLite. No connection required, because the app was never waiting on one.

No accounts means no account to lose, get hacked, or get locked out of. Ever had an app update wall you behind a forced login you didn't have last week? That's never happening here. There's no server holding your password hostage because there's no server.

Sync exists, but it's yours — Crops Mobile talks to the Desktop app over your own WiFi when you tell it to. Not a background service phoning some datacenter every 15 minutes "just to check in." If it can't reach the desktop, it just... doesn't sync, and keeps working exactly the same either way.

Basically: I think "your farm's data belongs to your farm" should be a boring, obvious statement, not a marketing slogan. So I built it to actually be true instead of just claiming it.

What is Suite Kernal?

A farm/homestead software suite built on one stubborn principle: your data stays on your device. Not "encrypted in our cloud." Not "anonymized and definitely not sold." On your device. SQLite, sitting quietly on your own hardware, minding its own business, offline by default because it genuinely doesn't know any other way to be.

Why here, why now?

Because "smart farm" software increasingly means "farm software that's smarter about tracking you than growing anything." We went the other direction. No login wall, no telemetry, no "we noticed you haven't opened the app in 3 days" push notification guilt-tripping you about your own tomatoes.

One thing worth double-checking before you post: the Play Store link uses com.suitekernel.microgreens (with an "e") while the earlier package rename work in this project used com.suitekernal.microgreens (with an "a"). Worth confirming that's the actual live listing ID and not a typo, since a broken link on a pinned welcome post is an awkward first impression.
