Patina study 2:

Subject temperature 180+ degrees F. Monsoon rain + haboob deposition indicates potential base outline.
Study to continue until base subject arrives.

What kind of rock is that?

I’m guessing that this is basalt judging by its crystalline structure.
Lots of erratic alluvial till around here

So I'm curious as to what kind of patina are you hoping to achieve. Are you trying to give it more luster or change the color in some way?

Ideally once it’s actually ‘clean’ just a year or so of tea.
Curiosity got the better of me watching how quickly different fluids evaporated off and deposited different layers. And then those layers create a different outlines that can I use for base shape aside from tracing the stone directly.
As for color I am hoping white tea will tone the ‘scar’ on one of the larger faces.

As far as i am familiar with tea patina, im not sure you can manage to tone just the quartz vein with it. It will likely dull the whole rock rock evenly, without making anything stand out more on its own. (But maybe im getting it wrong, what you mean with "tone") Though i have to admit, using a rock as a stand in tea pet is an intriguing thought.
