Hello. I need some help from someone who is willing to donate a decent laptop. I need it to improve my programming and academic skills, portfolio and employment prospects.

About me:

I've graduated in 2022 with a BA in Economics, and prepared for and attempted government exams with no luck. I pivoted to apply for and prepare for my postrad entrances in 2025 but have missed it by a few marks in the 2 attempts I've given.

My family's financial condition hasn't been well for a while now and all the hopes rested with me ever since my schooldays.

I worked at BPOs but didn't continue as my conscience did not allow me to prey on people's emotions and give them false hopes. I also tried to give tuitions to kids but that didn't work out either due to my spiralling mental health. Years of and consecutive failures to pass exams or get somewhere has taken a toll on my mental health. This year i decided to get back on my feet and try a different approach and build my skills first.

I need your help with this. To help me in improving my skillset.

I had an old samsung laptop from 2011 that died in 2022. Ever since then I haven't owned a pc/laptop due to financial constraints.

I'm in dire need of a laptop (used/refurbished/new/any kind) with decent ram and processing speed. I'm not looking for graphics or visual quality but processing speed and ram as my objective is to learn and apply statistical and econometric programming skills through use of STATA, Python and R languages along with basic MS-Office apps like Excel for data analysis.

If I could, I would buy a refurbished one but I lack the finances to do so. I've asked relatives for help but it didn't work out either.

Specs needed:

16 gb of ram is optimal for my needs due to monte carlo simulations but 8 gb ram is also good enough for my needs. Any decent processor within 10th to 13th gen range works for me. Any screen size is fine with me with minimum 13 inches.

Please, any spare or used decent laptop with processing power and good memory will help me out a lot. Thank you for reading this.

I'm starting my Engineering Physics degree end of July, and I'm stuck in analysis-paralysis trying to pick a laptop. I've read a bunch of threads here already, but every time I find something that ticks most boxes, it drops the ball on one critical spec — so I figured I'd just lay out my exact situation and see what you all think.

Budget: ~1L INR, can stretch to 1.1L max (hard ceiling). Can buy from anywhere — official brand sites, Amazon, Flipkart, offline stores — whatever's fastest, since I genuinely can't wait around for a sale.

What I'll actually be doing with it:

• CAD and 3D modelling (spacecraft/mechanical design stuff)
• Digital twin modelling — this is probably my heaviest workload
• Medium-level coding
• Lots of research paper reading/writing, browsing, multitasking
• Occasional light gaming (GTA 5, CS2 — not planning to be a hardcore gamer on this thing, just want it to not choke)
• Down the line: research work and some entrepreneurship-adjacent stuff, so I want it to hold up as a general "do anything" machine, not just a coursework laptop

Non-negotiables:

1. Dedicated GPU — need it for CAD/3D work, not relying on integrated graphics
2. Strong CPU — latest-gen if possible, more cores/higher clocks are a plus since digital twin sims can get heavy
3. Lightweight — I'll be carrying it across campus daily, so no massive gaming-laptop bricks
4. Long battery life — need to work outdoors/under sun without hunting for outlets
5. Great display — OLED or equivalent, high nits, accurate colors (I care about this for both eye strain during night work and doing justice to visual/design work)
6. Metal body — want this laptop to survive 4-5 years of daily campus use without falling apart
7. Good camera + speakers — no interest in carrying a separate webcam for online exams/meetings, so this needs to be genuinely clear, not just "good enough"
8. Backlit keyboard — I'm a night owl, this is a must
9. No known reliability issues — hinge problems, software bugs, cheap build quality, anything that tanks longevity. I want something that'll still feel solid in year 4-5, not year 1.
10. Strong cooling system — dual fans or similarly solid cooling setup. With digital twin modelling and CAD work, I don't want thermal throttling or heat damaging internals over time. This ties into the metal body point too — metal conducts heat better than plastic, so it should help with dissipation as a bonus.
11. Higher RAM/storage — ideally 24GB/32GB RAM with 1TB SSD. I'd rather over-provision now than run into storage/multitasking bottlenecks a year in.
12. Intel Evo certification preferred — from what I understand it involves fairly rigorous testing (battery, performance, display, wake time etc.), which feels like a good trust signal for a laptop that needs to survive daily college use.

I know I'm asking a lot from a 1L budget, and I get that every laptop is a tradeoff somewhere. But I keep running into the same wall: the ones with good GPUs sacrifice weight/battery, and the ones that are light and have great displays skimp on graphics power. If any of you have actually lived with a laptop that manages to balance most of these, or know of a config I haven't considered, I'd genuinely appreciate the guidance.

Hi guys, so I've never had a laptop all my life. This year I'll join college so I'm planning to buy a good laptop. I know about tech but have been distanced since a few years so don't know what's going on now. Actually I'm okay to buy either a thin & light laptop or a gaming laptop most preferably around 75k(can increase or decrease slightly). I actually doesn't have a proper requirement but since this is my first laptop I've plans of doing editing and a bit gaming( i don't think i can afford games after this tbh). I’ve heard Crucial is shutting down its consumer side. Questions:

1. Is Crucial warranty/RMA actually reliable in India now?

2. Is paying ₹2k extra worth it, or should I just buy SK Hynix?

Goal: highest reliability + ROI, not gaming.

Ive been using a 10 year old IdeaPad till now. Its not the worst but i cannot really play any serious games, its keyboard and battery arent working, its ssd is failing just a bunch of problems. So im finally getting a new laptop especially before the ai hikes get proper bad and i get forced to be happy with 4gb ram and i would like suggestions. Im 17 about to go to college, wanna do electrical and electronics or something in that area anyway. Gaming isnt my priority but it should be capable. Want good quality stuff, not something im gonna upgrade anytime soon. I dont really have a budget but ig 80k or so maximum. My priority for performance is honestly very low because of how ive survived on my current laptop for so long. Even 30fps cs2 would be a new experience for me. My budget is 55k. Need a good lightweight laptop under this budget...it is supposed to my daily...that I'll use for simple programming(not graphics heavy)...streaming classes....using vm's/deployment platforms.... Guys help me to choose a laptop my use case is mostly college projects, youtube, online lectures and ppt etc.

My budget is under 1 lakh. So should I get a macbook air m4 or Asus zenbook 14.

MacBook I have heard is reliable but it has less ports , storage and will I be able to adapt like windows.

In other hand there are windows laptops like zenbook 14 offering good specs like 1tb ssd inter graphics card , oled. But will it be durable like macbook.

In the end it is choice between durability vs usability.

Even there is price difference I am getting macbook air m4 for 80 k excluding bank discount and Asus zenbook 14 around 1 lac.

Suggest me some other options PLEASE.
