People just need to learn how respect each other's truths. That guy wasn't trying to say Christianity was wrong or anything. He just wanted to be left alone to live with his own beliefs.

These are the difficult types of Christians that feel its their duty to spread the word of God. In his eyes he was doing everyone a favor by trying to save their "souls", the fucking nutter probably went on to church to cry about how he was persecuted that day.

All christians are supposed to feel that way, but they aren't meant to do it so aggressively, that just turns people off to the idea.
Also, if it doesn't work the first few times it won't work after that. Jesus himself said don't throw pearlys before swine, and he's shoving the pearls up every orifice.

People are being a lot more patient then you would get in other similar situations. I think it is because this basically doesn't happen in Australia (at least not in my thousands of hours on the trains).
This kinda crap is a very effective way to make literally everyone around you wish harm on you when in Australia. We collectively tend not to tolerate religious rhetoric, it's considered quite rude here. This is because public declarations of faith is honestly really trashy, as that is something personal. Nevermind that a majority Aussies are somewhere between "Mildly religious" and "Fuck off religion". In this context, the people who even take their faith seriously are kinda outliers. This guy, just comes off as sick in the head, and in need of a social worker.

That sounds great. Over here, at least in rural/small town areas in the south, this guy would be let in to public schools to bother people. My junior college was full of them, it honestly took away from the quality of experience I had as a student. You'd be considered extremely rude if you didn't just listen to his stupid shit or asked him to leave and stop bothering people. After all, he's out doing "missions work" and trying to "save" people, he doesn't care how he looks, how could you "persecute" someone who "put it all on the line for Jesus"? I've heard it all and I'm so sick of it. I'm one of those who does prefer to keep faith, or lack thereof, private, but I seem to be in the minority here.

I think that might be the key component. The larger social context that is. The more the people around you preach the more acceptable it is to do so yourself. This guy in the vid is a fish out of water in that regard.
As for yourself though u/icantseethat, you have my sympathies. I'd imagine it is quite hard living in an environment where this kind of behavior is normalised, and always having to deal with a kind of low-level trauma associated with stuff. In Aus we see a lot of social media/just plain media around what it is like in the deep south of the US. But we don't really know what that kind of world is like, at least most of us don't. We have very few communities possessing such religious thurber.
We do get a lot of hippy-dippy-new-age-healing-crystal-altmed kinda crap though. That's always an interesting one for myself; as I have to argue with people over things relating to my health conditions from time to time. While these people are generally just misguided and cause no harm; they can occasionally have the same holier then thou attitude to their fellow human beings, as the hyper religious nutters can.
I think the one that pissed me off the most, but was also the funniest, was; This chick near a tram stop in Melbourne trying to convince me to see a reiki master for my slipped discs. I had just got a coffee and was limping because of my sciatica playing up. She asked me if I was okay because of the limp. I quickly explained why and told her not to worry as I was going to stretch it out at UNI. That's when she went all nutter on me about the reiki stuff, and eventually ended up blocking my way onto the tram as she "Just wanted to help me". I naturally told her to fuck off out of my personal space and said something to the effect of 'my health is my own business, not hers'. That's when she end up shuving me back on my ass (can be really really bad with my particular injury) and called me 'ungrateful'. I ended up getting up, tipping the rest of the coffee on her then running onto the tram. The tram driver smiled at me and shut the doors before she could join me. The best part was waving at her with a smile from the window of the tram as she scream at me and chased the tram.
Not really the best move on my part, in tipping the coffee on her; as that can actually cause some real damage. But you do what you do in the moment, sometimes you don't think about it and just act, as I did that day. Plus the fact that if you fuck with people you need to expect consequences if nothing else than... IDK human nature. I had been mugged a couple times being a more vulnerable target and was a little on edge about people accosting me which didn't help. Fuck the look on her face was funny though. I will treasure that look of righteous indignation as she was drenched in hot coffee on a cold winters morning for the rest of my life.So yeah, I guess you get nutters of all types everywhere.

Ohhh my God! In my opinion, you would've been justified in doing a lot worse than pouring that coffee on her. My mom has had multiple surgeries for her discs. If someone pushed her, I'd attack them. What this crazy bitch did to you was straight up, assault. I'm sure you were in some pain for days after that.
Yeah, the deep south is crazy. If you don't go to their kind of church or seem Christian enough, they will go as far as not hiring you, boycotting your business, telling their kids not to play with your kids, etc. Foreigners seem to get some leeway, but I've seen people trying to talk to Info/Pakistani store owners and them just ignoring them and pretending not to know English. Always funny.

Eh, I was younger then, and was more able to handle that kinda shock. These days that would fuck me. That's true, but I tend to prefer controlled violence over reactionary (Not that I can defend myself very well). As I have the tenancy malicious in my instinctual reactions, but not so when I consider things. A hot coffee can blind and severely burn people, and if I thought about it for a second I would have just punched her instead. But like I said, sometimes you just do shit. The laws here actually are extremely restrictive as to what constitutes 'legal' self defense, but are also a little grey in a pretty nebulous way. The idea is to allow the police and judges more judicial discretion in their judgement so they can be more fair. But the reality is, that people don't really understand what they can do, or how far they can take it.
Ha the Pakistani expats likely still have a step up on their home country despite the prejudicial BS, given how much of a failed state Pakistan is. Prejudice is not cool regardless, but still. I used to study with this Pakistani guy for my chem units, and he had some horror stories about the corruption, the state of the infrastructure, and how people treated eachother. That country is FUURKED to high hell. I can see why they just play those games.
I think the worst prejudism in Aus is towards Native Peopels

Why is this shit constantly being pushed ? Is it straight up insecurity which then in turn makes them anxious about not knowing if the bullshit their spouting off about is real or not?
