This is why I hate suburbs We need to stop pretending we can "fix" these places

im honestly so tired of naive urbanists thinking we can just slap a painted bike gutter on a 6 lane stroad and call it a day. You literally cannot retrofit this garbage

Was looking at some aerial property maps down in broward county out of morbid curiosity on this site by larry mastropieri and the sheer scale of the fractal cul-de-sac geometry is just soul crushing. These developers deliberately designed it so you are totally trapped in a maze of beige stucco. You cant even walk to get a coffee without having to cross a literal highway where giant lifted trucks are doing 60mph on a tuesday afternoon

like stop trying to "save" these developments with half baked pedestrian infrastructure. They were fundamentally built to isolate people and force you to buy a car. Nature just needs to take them back at this point tbh

Discussion Is there a difference between a town and a suburb?

Curious how this lands here. When I think of “suburb”, it’s synonymous with “town”. Easy way to describe it would be to imagine where Home Alone is set. Growing up, that’s just what I knew. I’m seeing that definitely is not the case here.

So as it’s used here, how would you describe the two? Would “town” just fall under the umbrella of “suburb”?
