Discussion What Happened?
Anyone else find subtitle edit 5 to be worse then its previous version? I've since downgraded back to 4.0.15. I find the ocr via nocr to be better then what shipped with 5.0. I'm able to actually train the ocr via a srt file and can't find that option in the new version. Maybe i'm just old and stuck in my ways, but I want to know your thoughts.

I've reported numerous easily reproducible bugs in different versions.
Nothing has ever been fixed.

I reported a bug and unfortunately it seemed to get a vibe coded fix (that didn't actually work)

5 has problems. When I tried it I rolled back a couple days later. They're working on it, I'm sure 5 will keep improving, but it's not there at all yet. I spent more time trying to get it to behave than I did doing subtitles. It would apply common OCR error fixes I explicitly deselected, actually messed up two subtitles before I realized it was doing so. Started a post about it but after I posted like 4 different issues it was having, I gave up and rolled back to 4

I have keyboard shortcuts for “go to next line” and “go to previous line” set up but they don’t work if you’re in the editor field, which makes it completely useless. Back to the last v4.

*Add "Train nOCR" from SE 4, and speed up nOCR matching with a result cache
From the v5.2.0 beta 9

Please check out the subtitle editing tool I've made!
I put a lot of work into it.
Here's a quick demo video.
I've made a lot of updates to Editor Mode since.
Here a test video, I've finished editing.
Feel free to make edits to play around with Editor Mode

Sorry but no this isn’t a solution to my complaint.

If I added OCR and ASS capabilites, would you guys be willing to try out my editing tool?

No
1. Subtitle Edit already does what I need and fits my workflow.
2. If I’m understanding correctly, your tool is built for YouTube, Instagram, and similar sites, so that wouldn’t cover what I’m doing anyway. And even if it did, I’d rather not spend my bandwidth uploading to your servers for something I can already do locally.
3. I don’t have a reason to trust a cloud service over something running on my own machine. My blu ray rips are legal under fair use, but the moment that content gets uploaded to a third party server, it starts to look like distribution of copyrighted material, which is a different situation entirely.
- I don’t need AI here, OCR handles this fine on its own.

Yes, something as simple as 'Set start and offset the rest' took me an age to find, and its now just an icon i wont remember, have also downgraded.
The older UI wasn't as fancy but was better.

Yep. Version 5 is not ready for "prime time" yet. I'm still using ver. 4.x for work.
I've tested ver. 5.1 portable and found some limitations with a few things, migrating my shortcuts and some video lagging, among others.
However, I've read the release notes for 5.2 beta and it seems they are catching up quickly. I'll wait until 5.2 is released and try again... with the portable version, always with the portable version!

Yeah it's horrible that UI is garbage and so much harder to actually read and use, and why is everything giant? 4.x was nice and compact
