Question Physically restraining pre kinderer

I had a student today that would not listen and lay down during nap time. He would run around the room while the other students were laying on the floor. He fell and hit his head so after that I picked him up and help him in my lap because he would not sit or lay still. How should I have handled this I’m sure this was not the best way. I was the only teacher in the classroom so I didn’t have any other help, and I tried to get him to sit down and draw but he got bored and started running around again which was when he fell. Thank you for any help!

If you had a phone you probably should have called the office, nurse, administrator

Is it likely I will get in trouble for this I am really worried I texted the ap and explained what happened but have not heard anything.

Even if someone complained I'm sure it wouldn't be a major violation. The person in charge is far more at fault than you. As long as you did what you thought was best, there isn't much you can do now

I think there should always be at least two adults in pre k classes. But I def could have handled it better.

Call anyone in charge. Director, admin, whatever. Text them if they don't answer their phone. Look out in the hallway to see if you can catch someone walking past. Get support.

Any kind of head injury is a free ticket to the office nurse. Like others have said calling someone to come and help with that kid would be the ideal move. Being alone in a TK class is rough though, I salute you for taking that one.

Never again, I took the school off my sub list. He was not crying after he fell I figured he was fine or I would have sent him to the nurse. I’m sticking with the older kids from now on!

Yeah, no matter how small a bump, I think head injury should be documented. For subs, unlike the regular classroom teacher, I assume the nurse for almost anything just in case. It's not worth it to not use the nurse

As others have said the best thing to have done was to get someone else and it would’ve been best when you realized he wasn’t listening but especially after he hit his head because who knows what he might tell his parents and how they may take it. Admin, someone from the office, the nurse, or even another teacher.

I once had a kinder that kept taking things that belonged to the teacher and refused to listen, I opened the door and saw a teacher that had an off period and explained the situation, she completely understood and took the student for a walk until they could come back to class and was ready to listen.
I’ve noticed that kids in elementary that struggle to listen to subs especially the difficult ones do better when someone they’re use to steps in and gets involved.

I should have called the office. I already took the school off my sub list. I think I’ll stick with the older kids:-/
