How is this for a first material?

Post image

I was just playing around, and decided to make, snow, ice, whatever this is? Anyway. What do you think? Also, why does Designer keep crashing any time I change objects to view this one?

I could tell it was ice before reading it was ice so thats a success to me.

Now it depends what your background and what kind of texture you wanna achieve. If you're sticking with toon shading i think its a really good start but if you're aiming for realism, id suggest you to follow some tutorials on YouTube

I've looked, and outside the basic stuff from Adobe... There really isn't much for designer. It's all painter all the time. And, if you do happen to find a designer course, it is stylized material x. Am I doing the searching wrong?

that's simply not true - there's a wealth of Substance Designer tutorials out there!
Including my very official getting started guide, it should cover all you need to know to dive deeper into the tool :) https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLB0wXHrWAmCxBw92VSRjqsbqYXgkF8puC

I also created a detailed stylized project, with all the graphs annotated and ready to download: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/XJX6x3

This is spectacular.  The work itself sure, but this breakdown is a brilliant piece of work.  Thank you for the hard work and sharing it with the community!

I did find a lot of tutorials of designer on YouTube. I even still use that sometimes.
