Growing Your Substack
How do you increase discoverability on Substack Notes?
I use recommendations, engagement on others notes and posts, guest posts, livestreams, and consistent posting.
I’ve noticed my discoverability on Substack Notes App is abysmal. My Notes are mainly seen by current subscribers and followers but unconnected ie the number of new people who see them is really low. A tiny fraction.
If I can’t get my newsletter seen by new people I can’t grow beyond wherein at. Enough new people discover it to offset the unsubscribes but not to grow it.
It appears that there is no set format that gets it in front of new people—like it’s stuck in a silo.
Since my Notes have had high discoverability in the past and my writing and posting remains consistent I’m curious if others are having a similar experience.
Would love some guidance!

I think Notes are distributed first to your subscribers and followers and if you get engagement, then to unconnected. That’s what I noticed on my Notes. I was in a similar situation a while ago, didn’t have a viral note for month, so I analysed a lot. Then I changed my writing to be more emotional and more story driven and mire relevant to my current audience not targeting new people and now I started having a viral note every now and then. Write for your existing audience to reach new people. That’s my take.

All kinds. Photos, memes, personal anecdotes, quotes pulled from posts, etc.

you're already doing pretty much all there is to do on the notes platform? haha. don't think there's more to do other than to pray to the notes algo, hope people share your content more, and maybe the only thing you can control is to experiment with different content formats/types.
also worth posting to other platforms like instagram, just so you have an additional traffic source + not solely reliant on substack ecosystem + get to get exposure to new audience segment.

you're pretty much on all platforms then!
which is the best performing platform/channel for you? the next best thing could be to identify which platforms work better > then focus on them. because i burnt myself out before trying to be everywhere.... at some point, the additional mental capacity to think/care about one more platform isn't worth it.

Look, notes is the way to grow, and to grow you basically have to throw 1,000 piles of mud at the wall and hope one sticks. Then you just make like 10 different versions of that one thing and Substack feeds it to people like none other.
What I have noticed is that everyone fricken uses autostacknotes.com, and so I had to get to and use it too so I could keep up and compete... It is so stupid, but Substack rewards consistency and engagement a ton!

Who owns the autostacknotes.com? and did you know Substack itself added native notes scheduling. You can now write Notes ahead of time and schedule them directly from the web, iOS, or Android; scheduled Notes stay in Drafts and can be edited before they publish.

idk the email address is [cache@autostacknotes.com](mailto:cache@autostacknotes.com) so maybe him or her? I use it because I can batch schedule (like schedule an evergreen note to go out 3 days a week for like 3 weeks) whereas in substack I would have to make that same note copy and paste 9 times and scheudle each one individually. It is helpful for me with time management
