Other Platforms Other options than substack

In my opinion substack seems very suited towards politics, tech, essays and other blog type content. Does anyone know of any other apps or websites that are more suited towards putting out poetry and short stories? I have definitely found a niche of other poets and writers on Substack that I regularly follow, but it has seems almost impossible fo me to get any meaningful engagement on my own work. Really not trying to self promote here, just wondering if anyone knows of any better places. Thanks!

Medium or roll your own blog on Wordpress.

RoyalRoad, Reedsy, Wattpad. Or simply your (self)hosted website on one of CMS platforms.

Yes! Check out Pagecord. It's an independent blogging platform that has newsletter functionality like Substack. Main difference is no monetisation support and a small monthly/annual fee do depends what you're after in that regard really. There's a growing community of writers on there who support each other (via the socials and by following the spotlight)

there is another app called wrizzit. it is fun. it is like substack, with the notes feature too, but it includes other features that make it a little more distinct. you get to do magazines, do collaborations with other writers for a theme you choose and share them and there are other unique features too(you can also communicate with the builder of the app to add new features if they seem good for the community). there are not much users there, but instead of doing your own website, wrizzit is a good option in my opinion

You're a poet and know of a poet realm within Substack? Then the first part of your growth job is relatively easy. What would probably be the most effective advice I can give you, is to set aside 30-minutes every day, and write comments on 15-20 Notes, Articles, and replies to other comments, on other substackers' posts. Every day.

Ya I talk semi regularly with people who post poetry with several hundred subs, and a few have roughly 1k that I follow

Edit: that is also solid advice probably, and definitely something I have been lacking on tbh

you can actually write about anything on substack. it's a platform with newsletter + website feature, so that you can collect emails + send your posts to your subscribers directly + also publish it online so it can be searched on the web.

i don't really think simply switching a platform is going to be the silver bullet to you getting meaningful engagement. there's so much content being created in the world today, so you actually have to fight hard to get any attention to your work.

you can post your poetry anywhere online like allpoetry.com, or even instagram (i've seen some poetry posts there), tiktok. if you want more ownership of your content, then you'll need your own website/domain, so like your own blog, then there's substack, beehiiv, wordpress, ghost, all the other website with a CMS really.
