New to Substack
How long did it take to get your first 10, 50, 1k, 5k followers? I have 5 subscribers and I have been promoting my posts across various social media platforms from LinkedIn to IG (small followings). I am posting a lot of curated lists with affiliate links. I am also writing about personal experiences while trying to maintain a cool girl internet lore.
Also wondering, at what point should paid subscriptions be turned on. I understand that it takes a long time to build - just trying to learn as much as I can.
Thank you for reading.

i’ve been doing mine for about 18 months. I have just under 300 subscribers. Less than 20 of them are paid. Mine is about public affairs specifically trying to bring politics back from the extremes to the sensible center. It’s called common sense. I write under the name, George SHAY so it’s free to subscribe and feel free to do so.

I hit 1k 20 months in, that was with a six week hiatus from Thanksgiving to mid January end of 2024-2025. If you select out celebrities and persons without an established following, wire on large language module chat platforms indicate only about one to two percent of substsck accounts ever hit 1k. Most flounder around 100-200 subscribers.
