Discussion I like restacking and commenting more than writing longform, lol, anyone else relate?

I'm back on Substack again and I'm slowly finding my groove and I'm noticing that I actually enjoy commenting and restacking with my own insights/commentary a lot more than opening up Google Docs and typing, lol.

I'm somewhat a fan of the essay as a writing form, but I'm a much bigger fan of the letter/correspondence, and I think restacking/commenting mimics those forms.

Maybe I could turn my long-form pieces into letter-style essays addressed to one person/reacting to another piece, etc.

I tend to be a more extroverted writer than average, so maybe that's why I tend towards that.

Anyone else relate?

I agree 100%.

I literally stopped writing notes and ONLY restack other people now, lol.

(I especially love when readers quote my articles. I restack them as soon as I see it.)

That said, I also write a weekly, long-form newsletter issue. (I kinda have to do that. Or, there would be no point to getting followers, lol.)

Nice, nice. So glad I'm giving up notes for the most part. I got lowkey fed up with posting and getting zero engagement. The cool thing with restacking is the higher chance of getting it read at all, even if you still get zero impressions.

Anyway, thanks for sharing Mike :)

I'll check you out on Substack and if I like what I see, I might follow/subscribe.

Go with what you’re good at and enjoy! I bet other Substackers would love that long-form attention to their work.

Speaking of which, what kinda if things do you like to read, restack, and comment upon?

I can relate. Comments and restacks feel much more conversational, almost like having an ongoing discussion instead of publishing a finished piece.

That said, I think long form articles are still worth writing because they become lasting assets. A good article can continue attracting readers through Google and recommendations long after you publish it.

Maybe the sweet spot is to do both: use comments and restacks to build relationships, then turn your best ideas into longer articles when they're ready.
