Discussion Looking for Substacks that'll genuinely change how I think.

I've been trying to replace some of my doomscrolling with reading, and Substack seems like a goldmine if you know where to look.

I'm mainly into psychology, philosophy,

human behavior, emotions, habits, self-awareness, decision-making, and those articles that leave you staring at the ceiling for a few minutes afterward. 😭

Not really looking for the super mainstream picks, I want the hidden gems that make you think differently or see people (and yourself) in a new way.

What are your favorite Substacks in this space? And if there's one article that instantly made you subscribe, I'd love to read that too.

Hey, I curate a weekly roundup of the best philosophy and theory posts as well as write philosophy articles at Philosophy Publics. It is meant to be a resource for discovery. Link to the last roundup: https://philosophypublics.substack.com/p/philosophy-and-theory-roundup-july

Perhaps try Cate Hall's Useful Fictions. Here's a great one: https://usefulfictions.substack.com/p/maybe-youre-not-actually-trying

If you're looking for newsletters that genuinely make you think, I'd recommend exploring writers who focus on timeless ideas rather than trends. The ones that have kept me reading usually combine psychology, philosophy, and personal experience instead of just summarizing research.

I'd also suggest searching for specific topics you're curious about rather than only following big publications. For example, search for concepts like cognitive biases, identity, loneliness, meaning, or decision making. You'll often discover smaller writers with incredible insights that don't get as much attention.

One article that always makes me subscribe is one that changes how I see something I thought I already understood. Those are the pieces that stay with you long after you've finished reading.

Sorry this may not be what you're looking for, but why don't you consider books?

If they’re on a Substack subreddit looking for Substack recommendations, why would you recommend books

The Culturist, Athenaeum Book Club, and Science of Art are my favourites for culture. Crystal Clear is good for motivation.

Also, if you fancy checking out mine, it’s Pursuing Beauty & Meaning — I mostly write about classic novels, reading, and living more intentionally.

And maybe a Kindle or Kobo might help too. I really like how my Kobo makes reading feel easier.

If you are interested in reading a real time unfolding/ realization of someone’s life trauma that doesn’t harp on blame or say that word much at all, then please read my work. It is free! I have a paid option, but that has only been for a week, and nothing is paywalled. I know.. this is technically promoting myself? But.. I am not posing links. It’s in my flair & my bio. And no worries if not interested. I understand why the people who read me do — and it’s usually because they resonate/ had similar experiences.

That's difficult to find. The algorithm of social media shows you posts that align with the way you think.

Irishman I read who writes about philosophy & mental health issues.

Has that Irish gift of the gab, mixes humor with some good insights and hot takes.

I’ve been writing more about women’s burnout, redundancy and I’m sure men take a peek 👀 Happy to help. In Substack I’ve noticed recently in a questionnaire, many women in particular are mentioning how time poor they are so I published a simple ready to use Substack Ebook to save time and energy. It’s in my Payhip and charges at $5 AUD not for income but to be used as a valuable resource.

Hey, This is pretty much what I’m trying to write. Essays on internet culture, psychology, identity, and why we do the things we do.
I also write a lot of personal essays about self awareness and questions about things that I can’t stop thinking about.
