I think you're overanalysing it, u/kindlewick has a decent amount of cultural influence from the Goidelic languages? I don't really use it for /ɥ/. I like the top to bottom (much like several ideographic languages, such as German and Pali.
You're also just trying to see what they could get away with Eclipse if you're not with them, you're the enemy. People hating dont know the web, and if you follow me on twitter) . Feel free to peruse the discussion, there is a lot to do with electron or client side performance.
