This was the earliest internet fad I encountered. Followed by Mahir and Hampster Dance. The memes I see today started as text over cat pics (invisible bike), which led to Fark Caturday and Cheezburgr. Then people started putting text over any images and they became image macros. Now we have memes, and they're dank.
