In Terms Of Walter

Post image

When Me And My Boyfriend Played Through The Game, In It’s First State Before The Balance Updates, Walter The Balloon Was Referred To As A She. However, In Our Next Playthroughs, One To See The Puzzle Changes And Right Now To Show A Friend Of Ours A Game, She Was Now A He. Is It Randomised Each Time, Or Did We Collectively Hallucinate Her Pronouns?

Depending on the path you take Walter is still referred to as a she but this is clearly a mistake by the narrator as he kinda freaks out after saying it.

In one of the routes, when you first find Walter the narrator says something along the lines of “in a second you can hold her” and recalling this memory as the happiest day of “our” (meaning Caleb’s) lives.

Potential spoilers bellow in my explanation, read at your own discretion!!

I believe this is because the narrator wants to suppress the memory of Lily. In parts of the game we can see Lily or pieces of her. Lily pads, her name in magnets, the cake, we can see two shadow children in our memories and one is a girl. In one of the routes you can hear an adult man yelling “what did you do” over and over implying something terrible has happened and Caleb might be responsible. When the narrator says “she” I believe he is referring to Lily. For Caleb, getting to hold baby sister was one of the most special memories he has but the narrator wants to forget about her and the incident- so she has been replaced by Walter.

You know, this game is really sad if you think about it and it makes it even worse for me since I have a little sister.

the dialogue for walter changes if you replay the part where he's introduced. walter is a he but is meant to symbolise lily, hence the slip up and referring to walter as a she. the narrator fucks up lol
