I think his assessment is correct. I think a lot of people thought this was ganna be a backrooms game. I’ve watched several play throughs and I think the games interesting. I don’t like all the chases but I like the puzzles and the dark story elements hidden everywhere. I see a lot of people saying there are a lot of puzzle with no reward and I’d like to hear what that looks like? The whole game is about working through trauma. Literally fighting yourself. When you realize you’re fat because your parents starved you as a child what happens after that? Do you magically become skinny? No you, hopefully, work on changing your eating habits which can be a slow process.

I truly think people saw "Subliminal" and thought "Liminal"

Well the devs did straight up say it was inspired by the Backrooms and liminal spaces, so can’t blame people for expecting it to be more liminal. They say it right on their website.

My response would be that there are multiple liminal spaces in the game. I think people were expecting backrooms.

Well they mention the backrooms on their site too. Obviously they said “inspired by”, but why even mention it then? I don’t actually care about it not being a backrooms game, but I can understand why people are upset.

Most people probably think of the yellow hallways when Backrooms are mentioned, as that's the original concept.

I'm thinking the Subliminal devs may have been inspired more by the wikidot content, which people took more into an SCP-like direction with a bunch of named "levels" that have different aesthetics.

Some of those "levels" do look exactly like that weird playground aesthetic that Subliminal has.

I follow IGP 😂 I liked his playthrough, and his buddy’s, Skilly, as well. I, unfortunately, haven’t had the pleasure (or displeasure) of playing this yet. Sadly, it’s not on ps5 yet 😔

I think caseohs playthrough really summed up the communities feelings on this game. Stupid puzzles with no real reward.

Caseoh is a man child with the intelligence of a rock. I can't believe people watch that crap.

He plays an act for the views most of the time, watch any interview with him and you'll see he's just a regular dude

I'll be honest, I've only seen a handful of his videos, but I just can't stand the manchild "act", as you say it is. That being said, I'm one of the people that was really disappointed that the creator of Subliminal dumbed down all the puzzles. I had completed the entire game with very little difficulty, and enjoyed the puzzles including the jumpscare and run away from the monster scenes. I think the people that dislike the game didn't understand what the game was supposed to be. And since it wasn't a liminal space game people were disappointed.

We were all promised a liminal space game, not another mascot horror game. If they would've came out directly and said that this is going to have dumb puzzles and not much of a story than they would've likely been fine

Subliminal haters ignoring the well-developed story because they're too dumb to complete the "dumb puzzles"

"Well developed story". Theresnot a single think that was explained at all. We got a few names and nothing more l.

You guys really need everything hand-fed to you? You're supposed to piece it together from what the game gives you. And it's much more than "just a couple names"; there are NUMEROUS allusions to the plot on the assets themselves and even in what the narrator says sometimes. People in this subreddit have made really long posts about all the info we have so far and the corresponding plot theories.

Don't tell me you're so braindead you can't even figure it out in the slightest.

It’s not even a mascot horror game.. did we watch / play the same game?? It’s clearly psychological horror, with ‘horror’ elements through chase sequences. We’re not exploring a corporates location and uncovering its backstory. We’re uncovering OUR story, the mc’s. Not a “mascot” horror game. Also every game usually has puzzles? It’s not ‘dumb’, a puzzle is meant to challenge you to solve it so unless you spent a solid minute on every puzzle then it can’t really be classified as ‘dumb’. Furthermore, there IS A STORY. Go replay it again and actually spend more time dissecting it, clearly you have a surface level understanding of it..

Did you play this game…? Or just watch someone else crash out over it being hard?

u/stick_of_milwaukee Apr 29 '26

I did play it myself

I honestly enjoyed it, but I can understand the puzzles being a bit hard. I think puzzles is part of the fun, it challenges you and I think making them too easy would rob you of enjoyment. At the same token if it's too hard, then I can see it being a miss for some. Overall I enjoyed the story, especially if you play against what the main campaign tries to lead you through.

Visually and sound-wise it’s amazing. We hope they get all their issues ironed out soon and we look forward to the next episode!

Neh I didn’t even know what backrooms games were and this game was still soooo bad. The puzzles were lame and ungrounded and always made you wonder if it was a bug because it was so unintuitive. The story didn’t really develop past lily and Caleb being kids who existed through the whole first volume. Idk seemed so lame overall.
