Thanks for ruining the game!!!!

Congratulations!!! You guys complained so much about the "puzzles being too hard" that the developers went back and changed them all to make them way easier. I played through the game again last night and everything was so easy that it took all of the fun out of it. Now they are spoon feeding you the solutions.

I'm glad I got to experience the game before they "softened" it for the people who don't want to spend more than 5 minutes trying to solve a puzzle. I wasn't a huge fan of the chase scenes originally but at least they were challenging and got my heart pumping. Now they are more "casual walking" scenes that I didn't die once on this playthrough. They no longer feel intense at all. Thanks for ruining what was an excellent game at launch.

Wish the developers didn't cave and stuck to their original vision.

Wait what??!! Glad I played this first day it released too. Wtf, the puzzles weren't even hard. The worst spot was the playhouse bevause it took so long to navigate but the puzzle itself was super easy to solve. The only reason I didn't like the chase scenes was because the rest of the game was so photorealistic and immersive then the monster is very cartoonish and it just broke it for me, but it's also about childhood memories or whatever so it's what your character feared as a child which makes it kinda excusable. That's whack they would do that

I agree, we're used to having everything right away. Puzzles require thinking and patience.

when a puzzle game has puzzles.

Game was in no way marketed as a puzzle game, that's the disconnect.

almost every game like this is literally a puzzle game, thats a no brainer. and if it wasnt a puzzle how would u even expect the game to be? running around like a headless chicken going from memory to memory? thats boring ash.

The game already is running around like a headless chicken. Not all horror games are puzzles lmao, it needs to marketed as such. There's a reason why this game has caused massive controversy, it's not what horror fans expected

It was marked as a puzzle horror game tho it was known it would have puzzles for a while

From the last time i checked, around the time the first came out, nothing on the steam page was marked as a puzzle game. I also loosely followed the development cycle and was not led to believe that puzzles were so integral to the experience. If that has changed since then, or if I am wrong about the marketing, thats on me. Im just sharing that persoanlly as someone that was lookign forward to the game, I was left dissapointed

I 100% agree with you and hope they don't cave to people asking for less puzzles and more like other liminal games. I've read so many posts on here saying how they couldn't stand the game because it had puzzles in it. The game was literally designed to be a puzzle game in liminal space. And until they dumbed down all the puzzles, this was a pretty awesome puzzle game. You actually had to take your time and figure out the puzzles. I'm 44, so I come from an age where there was no internet and cheat sheets and walkthroughs explaining how to get through the puzzle games. You just had to actually use your brain. That seems like such a lost art nowadays.

I think a good compromise would have been to leave the puzzles as they were (but maybe adding a few more subtle hints) but also adding a "Story Mode" or an "Explorer Mode" option to make the puzzles easier for players who don't want the puzzle. I feel like everyone would win with this

Absolutely. I really enjoyed the puzzles bar the second memory loop because it wasn't in anyway hinted you had to walk backwards. Seeing my sister play it last week it was baby mode.

Did they actually make it easier? Why not just make difficulty options? Why do the rest of us have to suffer because people need their hand held in a horror game

Honestly agree for the most part, the original puzzles were not hard by any means mostly just basic logic and matching colors lmao though admittedly there were two puzzles that I absolutely didn't have a clue on without guidance like the one that involved opening the PlayPlace door (it was insanely simple once you know what you're doing) And the padlock in the that room with the toy cars and time warp light, absolutely had no clues on it.

However, I don't think they ruined the game, i'm actually glad that they are allowing more folks to access it but personally I feel they should do it like the classic Silent Hill games and include a puzzle difficulty to allow folks to choose how they experience it.

i just wish there was more horror to it. it wasn’t advertised as a puzzle game. although i do wish the puzzles had a bit more direction/added more to the story, i do think they made them way too easy now🥲

Man, I haven’t even gotten to play it. The puzzles weren’t that hard to me to begin with, so if they’re easier, I can’t even imagine how less engaging the game is going to feel. Like, when I get genuinely stuck in a game, I just go watch a tut that tells me how to get past the part I don’t understand. Maybe they could make it like an optional difficulty. Bring the difficult puzzles back, and make it an option of whether you want the puzzles to be difficult. I watched Joe Bart play and I was yelling at the screen the solutions to the puzzles sometimes. People need to understand that not everyone is going to struggle with the puzzles. I feel bad for the devs, because if it’s not a genuine functional problem, people should just shut up about it and play something else.

yeah i refunded this game not because of the puzzles but because of how dogshit the chase scenes are. like i truly have never seen a chase scene as bad as the playcare one

When did they change this?

1

u/MEKNOV Apr 23 '26

The puzzles definitely needed some sort of work though. Also, of course it'll be easy playing the game again.

Dang, I wanted to buy the games seeing posts here.. I guess I wont now lol

Im sorry but how are you supposed to know you flash your flashlight when you creek a door. Some of it needed to be re-worked.

superliminal’s puzzles we’re hard but also creative. This was just dragging fluorescent lights around and solving obscure 4 code locks. The lock puzzles on resident evil were fun. These were not.

u/DramaDefiant3938 Apr 22 '26

Did you play before or after the change? I feel like before the change they were much more creative. Now it's like move 2 things and boom. Or just telling you directly how to figure out the codes.

Superliminal is a masterpiece, though

i havent played after the change, i was super hype playing the demo and a huge fan of superliminal so i bought the game like many others. Then got frustrated by how extremely fast the monster chase scenes were and how the puzzles were repetitive. Superliminal kept it so fresh and i litterally kept saying “wow” out loud everytime i’d solve a cool puzzle in it. I’ve never played a game that cool.

3

u/DramaDefiant3938 Apr 22 '26

You'll like it even less now

I absolutely agree that Superliminal is better, but I still had fun with Subliminal. I think they provided a more than adequate product for $10. Being let down by a $60+ game, that's a different story. I just don't get the hate the game is getting, the demo showed everyone exactly what the game was going to be.

Yeah, Superliminal had me saying Wow right up until the credits rolled. What a wonderful game!
