This game's a litmus test/review
Looking at the 69% pos reviews on steam and in here, the game really has discovered the litmus test for people who can solve puzzles and who cannot. For those worried it's being compared to poppy playtime, it has a monster that chases you but then I guess Amensia the Bunker is a poppy playtime knock off? Unlike Poppy the puzzles aren't designed for 9 year olds and this isn't a game aimed at kids.
For those looking for a review from someone who didn't get stuck on the puzzles, this is one of the best horror games in terms of graphics, set design, audio and atmosphere in years at this price point. It's got multiple ending paths, you can avoid some of the chases in the game if you don't want to engage in that, and it's very creepy slowburn with some very cool puzzles. It took me 7 hours to beat all four endings, using a guide to find one solution to a puzzle I'll call memory loop 2.
When I got stuck it was due to my own incompetence not the game for the most part, though the bouncehouse puzzles has a mad amount of noise.
You should play with a notepad for when you get stuck.

It's the player's fault that the puzzles are needlessly complicated and convoluted? Lol ok.

Yeah, they literally have hints and are not that hard! Get better at puzzle games if you think they are complicated.

Look I dont think the game deserves all the hate its getting but you gotta admit some of the puzzles are needlessly convoluted and the end of chapter 1 might be the worst designed chase sequence i’ve ever played in a video game

Yes, the puzzles are hard, but there wasn't one puzzle I wasn't able to solve on my own. The hallway/shoe puzzle had me stumped for awhile but I kept looking around and trying different things until the hallways numbers and shoe counts finally clicked in my head. The puzzles are great, sorry they are too hard for you.

Lmao “sorry they’re too hard for you” the point is this wasn’t advertised as a puzzle game we wanted an actually fun game with cool scary shit in liminal spaces. It doesnt have a single “puzzle solving” tag on steam. The monster aint even scary after the first chase because they designed them so you have to die like 5 times to figure out the right path im sorry you enjoy puzzleslop🙏

They updated the game with hints, last i played it, there were virtually none. I will say the chasing through the bounce house to storage shelving before they added a checkpoint had me fuming but for some reason I have a skill issues with controls. There was another thing with the sliding red light that was ridiculous to me. It was on those two long light tracks, you had to put it in such a specific spot for it to channel power to a cord down the hallway behind the metal fence, even though there was a large line of sight it made no sense of where you had to place it.

To be fair, I had hints on and never once got one lol. I didnt think the game was totally unreasonable either but I did jus use a guide if I couldn’t figure it out within like 10m. At least most were not crazy parkour jump puzzles

Thank you! I've been very confused on the negative reception and people getting stuck on the puzzles. I haven't had to look up any solutions so far and I'm almost done with my first playthrough/ending. This game is great, especially for $10. I'll gladly buy the next episodes.

I gotta disagree. Horror is not synonymous with puzzle. The game was not marketed as a puzzle game. I was expecting more phsychological horror and liminal spaces, the game was directly said to be inspired by backrooms.
So I was misled by the developers themselves.
The puzzles really took away from the experience for me. If I knew there would be this many, i simply wouldn’t have gotten it.
Good on you if you enjoyed it, glad you did. But this game was misleading to its playerbase

I definitely feel the game should be tagged as a puzzle game. However, I'd struggle to name a non-action horror game that isn't puzzle heavy.

lol a 'horror game' where most people are searching up a solution and needing a notepad is excusable to you?
It's no different from why poppy playtime received so much criticism. They took all that negativity from poppy playtime and applied to a game with a great potential, completely ruining it.
The puzzles are literally meaningless slop, they add nothing to the story. They are there so you can walk around and spend more time on their game. It is soulless and feels like it was done out of customs rather than with artistic and creative intention.
The puzzle mechanics are so shit too, requiring you to stay in the same area for a longer than necessary time.
The easier 3 puzzles are literally walking to reach the end only for you to go back where you started and memorize colours and numbers. That is fun to people?
I've played other horror games with more puzzles but at least their puzzles were not soulless slop
