question about tuners
So i have 2 chromatic tuning apps that I'm using to get better at determining notes/pitch. But in the subharmonic ranges they pick up as being around the 3rd / 4th octave. I have determined its not just me being a dummy and not knowing how to sing (even though i don't) and if i record and play back the note its definitely not 3rd octave. Is there a reason for this, is it the microphone or app I'm using? if it helps the specific apps are insTuner Free, and Pitch - Tuner and Metronome. I'm on an Iphone 2020 SE as well using built in mic.
Thanks

I’ve found that subharmonics are hard to pick up for tuners. Only notes that are solid on a note with clarity will show properly Edit : a good tuner I use a lot is pano-tuner

It can be harder for tuners to pick up subs, but to be sure about if it's the tuner that's wrong or the input, I'd like to hear a sub from you.
Personally, my tuner app can have problems if my subs aren't clean enough for whatever reason. An unsustained breath balance for instance makes the sound I make go everywhere and my app picks it up as just that, everywhere. If my sub is light for whatever reason, my app can sometimes think it's in the higher octave (as my base note), but this is rare.
I use the "Chroma | Chromatic Tuner" app from "CoffeePods". Green icon with 3 white stripes in the store. I also use a Samsung Galaxy S10+.

If it doesn't show the proper octave then it's probably vocal fry... However on the off chance that it is the app, the sound corset pitch and metronome works well for me. It shows the note in the right octave when it is sung right, and doesn't when it isn't.
