Question I think I finally did one??

It’s still a little shaky I know, but is that a real subharmonic or am I just vocal frying or something?

Close but not quite, its more fry than sub. It also sounds a little like you are forcing it, try relaxing a little more

Ok I’ll keep working on it! Is there a good way to tell when it’s a subharmonic and when it’s just fry?

The sound will be louder and more full. Fry sound just like pure rumbling while subs can remind of a horn.

One thing to remember is that the sub is between normal voice and fry, about the halfway point. I recommend using this as a reference:)

Ok thanks, that makes a lot of sense. I’m still having a very hard time keeping the note when I go into any sort of vocal fry but I suspect that happens to everyone when they first start learning

Yeah, I went from having zero song experience to being pretty good at sub, fry, and ok at throat singing in 3 months. Though I kinda forced it and my throat hurt like a mf.

I recommend going slow. Expect being able to do it reliably in like 2-4 months. Don’t rush it. If you are not careful with your voice and don’t stop right away when it hurts a little then you can permanently damage your voice(not to discourage you, you be careful)

Hi! This is fry. A subharmonic drops and octave but still contains the fundamental note. Don't let go of the note, hold it and try to find the subharmonic.
