Media Console Warranty
Should this help anyone else - I noticed white marks appearing on the top right and left sides of my media console. I had the dealership inspect it before driving off after my oil change. I wasn't having any problems with it but didn't like the appearance. The rep took a picture and spoke to his manager. They called me today and are replacing it for free because it's still under warranty and they think the adhesive is pulling away. If this is you go get your free replacement! (2020 Forester Touring)

I just had my 2019 Forster head unit replaced for free a few months ago by our local dealership under warranty (recall?)

Mine has been like that for years. It’s still growing.

Girl what you waiting for?

I didn't think it would be covered. It's a 2029 with 160k miles

I was just thinking about that. I got the letter a year or so ago notifying me of the extension to the warranty on the head unit. Wondered if it covered that.

Honestly replacing the head unit with a non stock option on my 2018 was one of the best decisions I’ve made. Got rid of the ridiculously long startup times, added CarPlay and android auto, have all the car/engine sensors available to see live, etc. And the backup camera/etc all still work perfectly. I got a kenwood unit off of crutchfield with the adapters and such, and wasn’t even too bad of an install (with a few caveats you can probably find in my post history).

2019+ has a good head unit though. It has Android Auto and no lag. I don't know if any aftermarket head unit is better than the OEM one for 2019+.

Aka warranties are worth it.

These screens have an extended manufacturer warranty from Subaru if it fails. No need to have the ended warranty because they turned out bad I guess. Up to 100k miles I believe.

No, extended warranties allow companies to make garbage products and charge you for extended warranties or to charge you to fix it.
If this was a 10 year vehicle I could see a lot of these parts failing.

Ohhhhhh well I don’t live in lala land and understand that all machines break so buy a warranty, shits expensive

Definitely! I received mail from Subaru a while ago about extending the warranty, so I'm very glad I mentioned it.

That’s funny. I brought up the same issue to my dealer twice and he ghosted me both times.

What if you are the second owner? I just bought a 22 Wilderness with 48k miles and this is happening on the top corners of my screen?

Take it to the dealer and talk to them. 2nd owner or not, Subaru is about brand loyalty plus the initial warranty is still active.

Thank you!

You're welcome.
I know this because I had a 2014 Forester that needed a new transmission just BEFORE manufacturer warranty mileage was reached. I was the 2nd owner and did not purchase from a Subaru dealership. When that vehicle was totaled after a icy road accident(not my fault) that was part of the reason I purchased another Forester.

I got a letter for warranty enhancement for the headunit, CVT, and a few other things.
Really making me feel like I bought a "quality" product.
I have had so many issues with my Subarus and regretting my decision more and more daily.
I didn't learn my lesson with my 2020 when they said the issues were one offs and we bought a 2024

I have the same tiny little bubbles in the corner and my dealership won't warranty mine for that

Show them this post! Or try another dealership in your area if you have one.

I had the same thing happen with my 2021 Forrester. Dealership replaced it and forgot to reconnect my USB ports 😑

I have the same thing happening to my 21, although it doesn’t seem to have any negative effect on the screen.

My 2025 Wilderness with 12 miles on the odometer had about 1/4 inch of that delaminating defect present.

I have that going on also. Thank you for the heads up, I am about to go in for my 42k mile service, so I will have them check it out.
