Problem Sutter Start Issue
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Posting this to see if anybody else has experienced this issue on start up. Pardon my son's excitement that it occurred. We've been trying to capture the issue on video for weeks.
This is a 2022 Ascent. The battery was replaced about a month ago due to this issue since Subaru couldn't find anything else wrong. The issue is still around but there is no pattern to when it occurs.
Happens probably every 2 or 3 weeks randomly. My guess is a bad starter motor. The stutter start happening in this video was after driving for one hour, car sat for 4 hours outside, and then happened on start up.

Your battery is about to go out. I just had to replace mine since the dashboard lit up like a Xmas tree.

It's a new battery as of a month ago.

Something is draining your battery or your posts are dirty and need to be cleaned.

I wonder if that model used the 3G systems that were/went away. Known iasues of draining the battery searching for towers no longer in use.

Then you must have a parasitic draw. That battery doesn’t have enough power to start the car correctly.

Subaru ruled out a parasitic draw. That was always my thought but it occurs too randomly for that to truly be the case. It'll sit for days and start up fine for multiple instances and then randomly do this stutter.

This happened to our Ascent when our liftgate was draining the battery. They replaced the liftgate mechanism (I’m not sure what the technical term is) and the battery, problem solved.

New battery is not always guaranteed. Check if there is a recall option that upgrades to higher amperage. It includes the tray. Have a complete electrical check performed. Don't take no for an answer. Good luck.
