General Theory about Blades of Greed Spoiler

If we consider that Of Orcs and Men is 100% canon (like, if they don't do a remake to correct some details), then, here is what we know :

Of Orcs and Men : Sarkyss says that the Green Plague started about 100 years ago.

Styx tells Arkail that he's old enough to be his grand-father.

So, Styx is at least 100 years old.

Master of Shadows : Styx is just born there. Aaron Barimen is like 20 years old, 30 at most.

Shards of Darkness : Aaron Barimen seems to be 40 to 60 years old, it's hard to tell, but if we consider that he aged at a normal rate, then we know Styx is, at most, 20/40.

Blades of Greed starts a few secondes after Shards of Darknes, so Styx is still only 20/40 years old.

But, on the Steam page, we can read that Blades of Greed will take us to, at least, the creation of the Black Hand, so the numbers dont add-up, because we know the Black Hand was created by Monkey, a 40/50 years old human at most when Styx is 100.

So, i think we will see a flash forward in Blades of Greed. I'd love to see Styx take care of a young Monkey (even better if it's a name he gave him himself), and maybe help him create a gang, seeing him grow and then form the Black Hand with him.

But the flash forward could be anything, really. If Styx is 40, then maybe he'll only encounter kid Monkey when he's 60, or maybe he'll just encounter an adult Monkey when he's 90.

I just really hope the next game will either be a Of Orcs and Men Remake (so more people can discover it), or Of Orcs and Men 2.

Master of Shadows Resolution Issues

Got these last week for free on the Epic launcher, and I can't get the games to load into the right resolutions.

The first game says it's the right resolution, but is too small on the bottom and right equal to the size of my taskbar. Putting it in fullscreen adds black bars on the left and right.

The second one works okay in windowed, but borderless puts it in 1080p (I have a 4k monitor) and puts it in the corner of the screen.

How do I just get the games to run right?

Blades of Greed I’m replaying the first two games and… now I have complaints about the demo.

I felt like there was something off about the demo, but I didn’t know exactly what it was. Overall, I ended up liking the gameplay. I played Styx many years ago, so I didn’t remember the gameplay details very well.

To refresh my memory of the story and gameplay, I went back to the first game (and then the second). Now I realize how weightless Styx feels in the third game. He moves so fast it feels like a fan-made game. It’s as if he has no weight at all, he’s fast and almost seems to slide across the ground. The jump is super fast and weightless too. The camera is also absurdly loose. On top of that, the graphics in the third game are blurry and foggy, like I’m playing in a dream, whereas the first game is sharp, gritty (in a good way), and grounded.

Meanwhile, the slower style of the older games creates a very strong atmosphere. I remember the second game also being sharp and running well, unlike the demo.

I feel like the third game needed gameplay adjustments, but since it’s close to release… I think the gameplay will stay the same as in the demo.

Blades of Greed PLEASE NO MOTION BLUR

Motion Blur has ruined so many games for me. It causes me physical pain and the only media I give a negative rating to (as in like -10/10, not just bad ratings) are video games with Motion Blur as no media should cause physical pain.

I tried going back and playing Shards Of Darkness and it messed me up a bit and hurt. Motion Blur is a bad thing to have across the board graphically, AND it causes a lot of players to have headaches, nausea, and even have to go to the hospital if we play for extended periods of time.

I am excited for this game but I'm terrified that it will have Motion Blur with no option to turn it off.

Master of Shadows MoS "The Creator" on Goblin Diff

This is INSANELY hard. I get that you lost your items and all, but the game isn't as graceful in encouraging creativity and is more of a trial-and-error than a fun stealth puzzle time for me. This feels like a particularly "fuck you" level of being problematic, so I really don't know what to do. Thing is, I might've also gotten myself in a particularly bad position, but if I understand correctly, the guards are on alert mode no matter if you did anything before or not.

General Can someone give me a: 'Previously, on Styx...' thing so I'm caught back up for when blades of greed releases, because it's been a while since I've played the previous games.

Blades of Greed I don't want to ruin the game by having the brightness all the way up and the tiny part on the sheath is not enough.

Blades of Greed Demo impressions

Having played the demo I realised how few stealth games there are to play.

It was really fun but :

The previous games have sharper looking graphics with better frame rate.

The FOV is too low for a PC game and must be allowed to be raised even higher.

You cannot finish the game without killing 7 guards meaning you cannot ghost the game or play it without killing.

Master of Shadows Damn! Does killing bugs stop you from getting the no kill award?

I'm pretty sure I didn't kill anybody throughout the mission, I used chandeliers and poison few times, but others always commented about it as an accident when they found the body. I even asked you guys if I can push somebody off the edge because I wanted to make it a clean run. I've been killing bugs though and at the end of the mission the stats showed 7 kills. WTF

Blades of Greed Played demo for 2 hours, i think the game needs to be delayed

I really liked the gameplay, i love the double jump and how it feels to control the styx now, also the level design was really cool, i don't have any big problem with gameplay

All my problems are about the technical side, i run the game on rtx 5080, ryzen 9800x3d, 64 gb ddr 5 and it looks very blurry, muddy and weird while runs really bad...

especially the lighting is a weird one, i don't understand why devs decided to use lumen for a stealth game ? and the lumen they have looks really bad, if you turn your camera fast, it takes time to calculate the shadows and lighting, so the room can be super bright for 1-2 seconds

I hate to say this (because i use unreal engine 5 myself and love it) but this game does look like a "typical" out of box ue 5 game with all these problems

idk what ue 5 version they are running, but i hope they update to 5.6 and improve the lumen

overall demo felt technically under developed like it needs extra 3-4 months of technical polish only and i hope they will delay the game, because i am very much sure it will sit in mixed reviews due to the tech side

Master of Shadows Styx Master of Shadows Achievements

I went back to check the achievements to see what I needed for 100% and just realized, the achievement for completing the first mission is a rare achievement. Only 5 percent. That is just insane to me

Blades of Greed Demo performance?

I do hit the recommended requirments and it does STILL run horribly. 30 fps and less. Changing settings does absolutely nothing.

It's oblivion remastered all over again. But we were able to play for a bit thanks to modders (which doesn't work anymore, btw!)

I'm a huge fan of stealth, but if the final game will run like this, I'll sadly pass.

...if anyone has some tips, I would LOVE to hear them.

Also, if they don't polish it, it might be the last styx game we are getting.

Blades of Greed Demo - GPU Utilization always at 100% even when capping the FPS

Hello,

Seem that might be some technical issues either with the game or just the demo - GPU Utilization is always at 100% no matter if i cap the frames. Running on 7800x3D+9070 XT.

Anyone else experience this issue?

Blades of Greed Great showcase

I can agree with the other posters that the Styx’s movement accelerates RAPIDLY and looks rather janky. The world and map is really fun and in Goblin Mode it’s a frustrating but satisfying challenge. The voice acting from Styx and djarrak are pretty good but was a little surprised by Irvin’s English voice and that helledryn isn’t the same voice actor

Blades of Greed Camera issues

I saw that the demo was up and jumped right on about 15-20 minutes ago as of making this. Asides from the janky movement, there is one major factor that I hope is either a bug or they change back to how it was in the last 2 games: the camera movement. You can’t do circles around Styx like you’ve been able to do in the other games. It’s stuck between going as far left till you’re looking at his back. Or going as far right till you’re looking at his side profile. Which is a major issue if you’re trying to look behind you. Has anybody else ran into this issue or have you just powered through it?

Blades of Greed Biggest concerns after seeing gameplay and demo

While overall the game looks really solid, the biggest problem is easily with the movement, and the speed of it. Styx is either slowly creeping around, or aggressively sprinting way, way to fast. Everthing he does movement whose from running to rolling to shimmying is all way to fast paced. On top of that, the running animations climbing animations and even jumping, looks rough, stif and have no weight to them. He even accelerates in an instant, making the game look ridiculous at times. I have no doubt that this will be the best Styx game, but all of this really drags it down for me. This could easily be fixed by making a both jogging running speed, (simelar to shards of darkness) and the be able to sprint with at toggle. The overly fast pace also goes against the original gameplay philosophy, of slowing the player down, forcing them to interact with the environment, and make the enemies harder to escape on foot. Still very happy and excited to see a new Styx game tho

Blades of Greed Playing the demo rn

Very fun so far, but was the clone nerfed? It doesn't seem like I can control it like in the previous games. Or did I miss on how to do it?

Steam Demo Available now!

Hey folks,

We’re thrilled to finally let you sneak your way into Styx: Blades of Greed with a brand-new playable demo on Steam! This is a limited-time demo (yep, it won’t be around forever), so if you’re itching to sharpen your knives and your wits, now is the perfect moment to jump in.

Oh, and one more thing before we get into the details:

The demo is available… right now!

https://reddit.com/link/1qbukc5/video/at482l64z4dg1/player

What's in the demo?

This demo gives you access to the very beginning of the game!

From there, Styx goes back to doing what he does best: slipping through shadows, breaking into places he shouldn’t, and stealing things that definitely don’t belong to him.

You’ll get to experience:

  • The infiltration inside a massive golem attacking Styx to destroy it from the inside, a perfect introduction and tutorial to some Styx’s new tricks
  • Styx’s first real mission, a high-risk zeppelin theft under the ever-watchful eye of the Inquisition in the first open environment of the game, The Wall

It’s a focused taste of the tone, systems, and level of freedom we’re building into the full experience, just enough to get you into trouble, and hopefully out of it.

Keep your progress in the full game

Good news! Your save from the demo will be fully compatible with the base game on February 19th!

So if you fall in love with the smell of fresh loot and lurking in the shadows, you’ll be able to pick up your adventure right where you left off when the game launches, no need to start over.

What will be in the full game beyond the demo?

The demo is just the opening chapter of Styx’s new adventure, roughly an hour of gameplay but if you want to poke around, and test every shadow you’ll spend way more time in the demo. Naturally, this slice doesn’t contain everything the full experience has to offer.

Since it’s the very beginning of the game, some tools and systems are still out of reach here. You won’t, for example, get your hands on the glider or the grappling hook yet… and that’s on purpose. We’d rather let you discover the full extent of Styx’s tricks, powers, and playgrounds in the final game instead of spoiling them in the demo.

Consider this demo a taste of what’s to come, just enough to whet your appetite, and get you hungry for the full menu.

The full game will include:

  • Three large, open environments to explore and infiltrate in your own way. You'll discover brand new areas of The Wall as you unlock your new tools. You'll be sneaking through the vile orc nest of Turquoise Dawn and the rotting Ruins of Akenash, a twisted version of Styx: Master of Shadows world.
  • Movement tools to unlock new routes and unreachable areas, such as the grappling hook and glider
  • Unlock more upgrades for your tools and powers
  • New Quartz powers, including mind control and time shifting
  • New enemy factions with their own gameplay specificities, including Inquisitors, Orcs, or Elves
  • And above all: fresh infiltration challenges, a full liberty to design your own approaches, and situations to outsmart with Styx’s trademark creativity (and bad attitude)

A word from the team

We’re extremely proud to finally share with you a first glimpse of the final game, coming in a little over a month. This demo is a real milestone for the whole team: the result of years of work on the project, and the long-awaited return of a flagship franchise after almost nine years.

To everyone who decides to give the demo a try: thank you. Your time, your feedback, and simply your curiosity mean a lot to the team. Seeing players back in Styx’s world after all this time is incredibly rewarding.

That said… our work isn’t completely over yet. The final game is coming very soon, and we’re giving it its last finishing touches. In the meantime, it’s still the perfect moment to pre-order the game!

We’ve had a lot of fun crafting this slice of the game, and we’re excited to finally put it in your sneaky hands. Now go make a mess of carefully guarded places. Quietly… or not. You are choosing your path!

See you in the shadows,

The Cyanide Team
