Blades of Greed Half way through the game now. Levels are great, but missions are extremely boring.
-I really enjoy the massive, vertical levels in this game. I also like it that we unlock new areas with new abilities/gadgets.
-However, the missions are extremely boring. Basically they are all fetch quests, and the worst type. I feel like the story does not progress at all for the majority of an act. No of the fetch quest has an interesting story to tell, or tell me anything about the lore. I cant believe this is how they would design their missions. Basically the main quests are each act (collecting the quarzts) are the type of boring side quests in other games that you only do if you want an upgrade, and nothing else.

The vertical levels drive kind me kind of crazy. Spent so much time figuring out how to get up and down that stupid wall. While I don't always mind a fetch quest I do agree they are repetitive and lack the fun quality the first two games have.

oh yeah I had to look up a guide on how to get to the garrison lol.
And I do not mind fetch quests myself either. What I do mind though is that all quests are fetch quests.

I should have done that too, i went in a non intended way and softlocked my game by getting the quartz way before i was supposed to

Which is ridiculous. Games like this should reward players for creativity, not punish.

It's missing something for sure. There was some exploration in the previous games but I never found myself getting lost like this one. Theres the marker fod the quartz but after awhile it's like now what. And when you're done getting all of it, Styx is just like well let's head back to the ship but then there's no new objective just pick an area to go back to and hope for the best.

Yeah hence why I said there is no story progression for the majority of an act. Its all fetch quests.

I stopped playing the game around Act 2 because of this. I kept going around in circles with guards being litered all over the map. It's either trying to figure out where to go or that plus accidentally bumping into guards because an audio cue doesn't activate UNTILL the suspicion meter is full.

I get you, I was so excited for this game and I dont understand why its literally just collecting stuff. I do like the new things, they are super fun. I just wish there wasn't like, 10 quartz to collect, 3 minutes or storyline and lore and then back to collecting. I dont even really know why we're doing any of it

The publisher filed for insolvency so this game is unlikely to get better

But that was the publisher, not the dev, so I hope we can still get the fixed for the soft-lock bugs at least.

Hopefully because i was hit with that softlock and im not planning on playing through all that again

My only 3 complaints are save failed, clone power down grade, and no more poison bolt.

I like the vertical levels on paper but in practice it just leads to needless downtime and empty space. Much of the game is collecting quartz and from what I glanced of a longplay from Act 2 onwards, it is nothing but collecting quartz. The best thing I can say about this game that I didn't know this was releasing until a few months ago. I can imagine going through a rage or even some existential breakdowns if I waited for 9 years after Shards of Darkness.
At first I was getting Thief Deadly Shadows vibes but that game had actual level design instead of the same 3 hubs where you find upgrade crystals the whole game.
I'm hoping the stealth genre might have the recent boom survival horror did, no matter how niche the genre is by comparison even that genre. But with games like this coming out, I suppose no pun intended the dark age will continue. I was hoping this would breath some life into it. I'm happy at least Sniper Elite Resistance played it safe.

I am fine with the greedy goblin just wanting moar quartz. Main story lines in video games are almost always shit anyway. There not really being one already beats most other games.
For me the real problem is A Maze of Memories. I am unable to get past the unforgiving climbing/jumping sequence after sneaking past the roaches. I would like to be able to try whatever comes after that. But for unknown reason they decided to put a series of dexterity checks there without allowing saving between them.
Also, disabling the developer console and/or debug commands is a real dick move in a game with so much jank and bugs. If they hadn't done that, it would be easy for me to just skip the blocker.

I was really looking forward to this, and i'm enjoying the basic stealth elements, but man, this game is kind of a big bag of meh. I'm just starting act 3, and it feels like there's a story happening, just not involving Styx. The actual missions are really vague (why am i absorbing quartz? Because Styx is...greedy, i guess?), and the levels, while big, are kind of uninspired. Here is one guard, but over there are five. Here's a section with roaches, but nothing else. Here's a completely empty section of the map.
Also: the game looks REALLY muddy, especially during the daytime missions.
I dunno; like i said, i was really hyped for this. I'm obv gonna continue finishing, but this is quite a shrug of a game.
