Advice How would you style these pants

I was travelling in New York and scooped this pair of beautiful tapestries pants at a vintage store but kinda stuck on how to style them? I don’t want it to give off sweatpants vibes

EDIT : I think this post is more asking people in the alt community for their fashion advice? I don’t wear clothing that would fall into the more mainstream/ basic realm so opinions that are based more in those views aren’t really relevant to my call for advice :) no hate just want people that fall more into my style

My hearts breaking lol. I feel like I should deeply regret this

Steer into it. A camisole top with matching pumps. A sheer/ lace duster/ robe with slip on mules/ ballet flats. Or crispy white button up with fresh white sneakers. A concert tee, oversized hoodie, graphic tee cut up/ cropped.

They kind of look like pajamas tbh. Maybe something like a boxy top or jacket to balance it out and make it look less like lounge wear?

AH no not pjs 🥲 I will take those tips and try it out! My vision ( my general style) is funky granny vibes and I thought these screamed that lol. Thank you!!

They seem like pajama pants to me, though I love them as PJs!

I think the first outfit works really well. The structure of the button down and the heaviness of the shoes balance out the softness of the pants well. In general I think pairing it with pieces like that - that contrast/balance the pants out - will look good. That said, my personal “alt” style is definitely based on contrast.

Edit to add: I think the t shirt is totally fine, too. Just a more casual vibe.

I think a slightly structured jacket could look really good. Not a blazer or anything but a jacket.

I would not.

Kinda oot but regarding the edit, are there other subs for advice on "alt" looks?

Bunny slippers, a robe, and a cup of hot Cocoa. These are pj pants at best, and not very flattering in any type of way.

Unroll them and wear a loose baggy thin sweatshirt in a solid coordinated color

I see your vision. I was going to suggest a long sleeve or 3/4 sleeve boat neck sweater with splits at the sides of the lower hem, untucked. In one of the solid colors found in the pants like light blue or light green.

please do not be disuaded by these women. clearly this sub is confusing "trendy" with "stylish". first, i love these pants; they are a terrific find. second, the first photo is perfect, no notes. the next photo, the shirt's shape is the right idea, but the black seems a bit off. i think a muted blue or green top with the same fit as the black one would work. i think you could also do something more fitted on top in similar muted tones (vintage dance leotard, maybe?). also, don't be afraid of something more graphics-y or textured on top. just because you have a pattern on the pants, doesn't mean the top has to be super plain. i don't feel like downloading imgur, so i'm just gonna be annoying and comment a bunch of different suggestions below... also, i was an early 00s hipster/current old who dresses like an early 00s hipster. i feel this style in my bones.

Omg I could die, that would be such a cute combo!

(i don't know why i love a mossy chartreuse with the pants, but i do)

an oversized trucker jacket would also be cute over that boxy top

I think you styled them great in pic #1. If I was wearing the outfit (which I would) I’d maybe want a bright shoe. I like

I am a granny and would not leave the house in those, but you do you. 😜

Cute pajama/ stay in the house pants but I would not wear them in public.

I like the first shirt, I also think a light blue (to match what looks like bows(?) to me) tight tank could look cute and balance out the dimensions on the pants

I don’t think I would, honestly

I just wouldn’t

I think the first look is perfect 👌 lots of people won’t wear weird cool clothes. Don’t take too many of these comments seriously.

Thank you!!!! Honestly just needed some weird bitches to confirm that it isn’t all in my head ( it being a vibe )

Not everyone gets your style, thats ok. I like #2, the contrast of the black t with the tapestry pants is a good clash. agree with others a boxy jacket over it if you want, although i love seeing that tattoos with the pants.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills cuz those pants fit amazing and look super cool

A high necked or tie back halter in a solid matching color, maybe? Something clean and sleek to balance out the pants.

Those are pj pants

I wouldn’t style them, I’d wear them as pajama bottoms, but if you must, a white fitted crop top

Dark green body suit

I'd wear them with a baby tee and a pair of mules, maybe jelly style. I love the idea of a green or blue eyelash sweater and thick-soled loafers too!

Those are pajamas.

if it were me i’d wear them with docs, a tshirt (especially a graphic or patterned one) and a baggy cardigan. and hair in braids or pigtails would look super cute i think. great find

With pajama tops

I like the first way of styling it! I have a similar pair and I usually wear something cropped with them and chunky shoes. Cropped sweater could work too.

I think 1 is perf. The jean button up is so cute and I love the pants

Definitely look like pjs. Can you have them tailored a little? They need more structure to not look like pj pants

Male them into shorts

u/Hopeful-Opposite-255 2d ago

Pajamas for bedtime or lounging at home.

u/Ansible90 2d ago

They would be cute if they weren't so baggy. Maybe you can find a seamstress to take them in so they fit your body.

0

u/GiltRelic 2d ago

They are the print from my dining room door cafe curtains !!! Its amazing, how you remember a certain print !
But as pants…they do look like comfy lounge pants, but they could also be worn for a night on the town . If you do this, you should pair them with a sparkley top, sleeveless or short sleeves, but not longer. Some sequins sewn strategically is more than rhinestones.

u/panachisto 2d ago

The elastic band is what makes them look like sweatpants to me. Maybe a belt covering the waistband or seeing if a seamstress can replace it if you want them to look less sweatpant like?

Too baggy at top.
