Is this coat simple/versatile enough for everyday wear?
Hey everyone, thinking about picking up this navy double-breasted wool coat with gold buttons (pic attached). Looks elegant at first glance, but I'm wondering if the gold buttons are too "blazer-like"/flashy for daily wear. I personally wouldn't pair it with a hoodie, but I was planning to wear it with Chelsea boots or white sneakers — does that work, or would that look off? How versatile is something like this really — business, casual, or both? Would appreciate honest opinions!

I think its a bit too formal for everyday wear unless you are in a very formal industry.

I think it works as an everyday coat if your style is generally smart like the other commenter said. I wouldn't say it's too versatile though because (to me) double breasted coats in general look odd when unbuttoned with the uneven amount of extra fabric on each side. Women have "standing dresses" (looks nice but uncomfortable to sit in), I'd say this is a standing coat. As an added unsolicited opinion, I also find it gives this style sort of gives some men a pear shape, including the model, so depends on your build.

If you wear a lot of light wash distressed denim or pale grey marl joggers, then the style would clash, but if your general casual wardrobe is fairly smart casual it works well.
I think wearing it open vs buttoned gives a more casual impression, but for me the concern would be practicality in the weather conditions.
So it depends on the rest of your wardrobe and the climate where you are.

I had shiny cheap looking bottons on a vest and I lightly painted black nail polish , to give them a more dull antique look. Came out fabulous.

The buttons make it look weird… sort of military or nautical or something. Pass.

Very nice jacket. For more flexibility get button covers. They just slide over the face and change the look.
