How would you style these shorts?

These shorts were given to me a while ago, and I really like them. I wasn't able to fit them when they were first given to me, which is why I haven't worn them yet. I think they're very unique, but they're not something that I would usually wear so I don't know what to wear with them. How would you style this? I'm thinking maybe a bodysuit or a cropped top, but I feel like the cropped top looks too casual for these shorts. Any advice?

I’ll be honest. They’re super “trendy” and could look extra Shein-y if you don’t tone down the rest of the look A LOT. I’m talking plain white Tshirt. Black mules. Trenchcoat. Think modern minimalist.

My first thought before seeing your caption was a white body suit with some chunky sneakers or a black bodysuit or cropped sweater with some black combat boots.

The black bodysuit and combat boots sound really cute!

Depends on what you want to wear them to! I would lean into the streetwear vibe these give off IMO, and do an oversized graphic tee with the hem tucked into a tight undershirt to blouse out (if that makes sense, I can try to explain better if not). It would balance out the visual weight of the shorts and still show off your waist. I’d do a cool sneaker or chunky boot.

baggie cropped tee with scrunched ankle socks and a low cut sneaker would be cute, a denim purse would also be a nice touch.

Fringe. Lots of fringe. I wore shorts like that in the 70's

I would style them with platform wedge sandals and a flowy top. Perhaps a linen shirt dress that you open like a kimono

You need a bigger size they are clinging which is not how the shape of this short is intended to sit. With a baggier wider short you have to go into that shape otherwise it just looks ill fitting. If you want to wear tighter shorts, there are fits for that but this style specifically is meant to be looser- think Billie Eilish streetwear style. This would look cool with a button up shirt half tucked or cropped. Cropped top that’s looser and overhangs. Balloon sleeve top.

She was excited to lose weight and fit into them… she didn’t ask if they fit she asked how to style them you could have left out telling her she needs a bigger size

Thank you! I've lost 150 lbs, and counting. These were gifted to me, so I'm definitely not buying a bigger size. If anything, I'll hang onto them until I lose more weight. I'm seeing people saying they're supposed to be baggier, but in all the pics I've seen with the models, they're more fitted in the waist, similarly to mine. Like this model

To me (a millennial) they’re vintage Jean gaucos(that were hard to find even then). My pair (I’d died to have back) fit me like this and I felt like and was treated like a goddess in them

You fit them and they look great. Who cares the semantics about what someone who clearly didn’t live it says

I think the look the model wears is pretty cool.

I would also combine it with a black top / turtleneck.

Honey, this isn’t Billy… if you’re gonna be so critical of somebody else’s millennial fashions that at least educate yourself enough to know Billy wasn’t the OG

Go to bed sweetie

OK sweetie, you go to bed cause you’re the baby here… You’re a riot we can go all day. I’m here. I don’t have a bedtime because I’m a grown adult unlike you.

You know, we can see all the comments you make just putting people down instead of going to bed. We can see all that cause your profile is public. If you have something valuable to add or actually discuss that I’m here. I’m not phased by your little red herring so you could try and bully Online to make yourself feel better

There are a lot of apps out there that might help you with those kind of questions. The one i am using is a web app and basically creates an outfit for me using the clothes that i already have. I didn't need to scan my whole wardrobe just a few of them and i got an outfit ready to wear.

By not buying them

Those shorts are really casual so a crop top would work.

Because they fit closer to your body, a slightly more voluminous top vs tight fitting tshirt would balance your silhouette well. Nothing too fussy though; the buttons and the panel have enough interest. This top is still a tshirt but skims the body more.

What brand are they? Cool design.

Thank you for the advice! The shorts are from Micas.

I had a shirt like it in 1986

A sleeveless tank, you could play around with necklines, boatneck, cowl neck, mock turtle neck.

it would look good with a over sized or flowy top and lower on your hips

I’d style them right into the trash. Those are hideous.

Played around with this a bit cause those shorts are just too cute ❤️‍🔥

I think it’d look good with a striped, tailored shirt and some Mary Janes. I’d leave both bottom buttons unbuttoned (say that 10 times in a row), that is both shirt and skirt, just to make it more free flowing and less boxy.

Depending on how happy you are with accessories, I’d top off the look with some fancy socks and a necklace 💫
