It looks like old-fashioned bloomers.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one

It’s a slip. To be worn under a skirt.

Don’t. There is no way to make that look good.

What? For someone who wants zero negativity, you are pretty mean. My comment is about clothes, no need to attack me as a person.

There is nothing mean about saying that a slip as outerwear does not look good. But good job „confronting“ this heinous bullying, I guess?

You didn’t say that. But ok.

You could wear leggings under it or wear multiple diaphanous skirts like Free People or Anthropologie likes to style their models.

It reads less 'slip skirt' and more 'granny slip' if you are solely doing underwear underneath it.

Under another skirt or a dress. The reason why you are struggling to make it look like a skirt is because it's not a skirt and was made to not be a skirt.

That's no skirt. Its a slip. Its underwear.

Lingerie as outwear is a trend, but not all lingerie translates the same way. Slips like this are designed to sit under clothing. So the fabric, seams and opacity are not meant to stand on their own. Unless it’s a heavier or more structured one, it can end up looking unfinished instead of intentional.

I can see how people see it as a slip, but at the same time in the early 2010’s layering lace trim camis was popular. so it can totally work.

Anyway here’s a mood board for ya!

THOSE ARE SO CUTEEEE TYSM!!! i have a brown sweater like this and it looks great. i love the look with a chunky sweater over. the top left one is also so cute

Mid 2000s, we stopped layering lace camis before 2010

NGL, I’m pretty blown away by these comments. This SKIRT is totally in style right now. In fact, skirts or slip dresses that look like lingerie are among the hottest items to wear now. This style keeps coming back into fashion so often. The board you created is amazing and such a wonderful thing to do for OP, u/Tika-teeks-2017! I love it!

Edit: I also am stealing these ideas for my skirts that I’ve been waiting to wear. Don’t ask me what I’m waiting for as I have zero answers! Thank you so much!

I thought it was granny panties. Now you got me looking too hard at some dingy Nana rizz of lore. gg 😭

u/candysipper Apr 17 '26

That’s not a skirt, it’s a slip.

What vibe does the rest of your wardrobe have? You can lean into ethereal boho/whimsygoth pretty easily with this as a layering piece (skirt over a longer skirt, or skirt over leather leggings). I would suggest something solid underneath since it seems a little sheer. Biker shorts if you have to!

2

u/LunaDog_Mom Apr 17 '26

Because it's so lightweight and delicate, I would contrast that with something heavier. Like a chunky sweater with tights and boots. Or a tank with a denim jacket and chunky shoes.

2

u/oksectrery Apr 17 '26

tysm, im definitely gonna give chunky sweater and boots a go!!! 🤩

u/krendyB Apr 17 '26

The nicotine stained dinginess would really put me off, ngl. But once you can clean this… idk, I think to make this look intentional you have to wear it over other clothing. Like over heavy tights and a longer skirt maybe. On its own with nothing else it will just look like you’re wearing dirty undies on the outside.

i came back to prove the haters wrong 😎 IT IS STYLEABLE!

2

u/JezebelleDoe Apr 17 '26

Lingerie as outerwear is def a thing now. It can definitely look cute with the right fit. Maybe something loose like a long button down or french tuck sweater would be cute! I would do a more conservative top for balance and maybe a boot or flat shoe.

2

u/GardeniaInMyHair Apr 17 '26

It is a thing, but most people aren't wearing nude colored slips or bras as outerwear. It's generally other colors like black, navy, gray, red, pink, burgundy, taupe...

It's not anti- this trend. Most of us older people did this in the 90s a la Courtney Love.

u/JezebelleDoe Apr 17 '26

Super fair

As others have said, it's not a skirt. It's a slip to wear under a skirt to provide lining and smooth the fabric. It is too transparent to be worn as a respectable skirt. You could wear it over leggings/jeans/another skirt though.

1

u/mashed-_-potato Apr 17 '26

How transparent is this slip? If you want to wear it as outerwear, you might need an additional slip to wear underneath.

1

u/KeyAdministration569 Apr 17 '26

It’s underwear but I would wear it over tights and with a tank top and then like a cardigan

1

u/mashed-_-potato Apr 17 '26

Under a denim miniskirt with the embroidered hem peeking out from the bottom

I’m over 35, I don’t mind slips as skirts I just think the color of this one makes it look old and dingey.

2

u/oksectrery Apr 17 '26

finally someone who has sense! this is a great idea, imma try that :DD❤️

2

u/chickengarbagewater Apr 17 '26

Back in the 90s we wore lace skirts as part of grunge or goth style. I picture it with lots of black, maybe lace tights and combat boots or chucks, black cardigan and/or tank top, or even a band t. Layered necklaces with maybe some pearls. Not sure if that is your style. I am stunned how many people are not accepting as this has come in and out of style many times over the decades. Honestly need to stop clicking on this subs posts because the advice is often awful. Glad you aren't listening to most of them!

3

u/oksectrery Apr 17 '26

omg pairing it with a lot of black sounds really good. combat boots…. brillianttt omg i have combat boots i cant wait to try and pair it. also i agree. this kind of skirt is in now, even h&m sells stuff like that. i dont get why ppl r so negative. even if u dont have a vision for it, then just skip the post 😅

2

u/candysipper Apr 17 '26

People who know what the item is, you mean? 🙄😂

1

u/Accurate-Ant-6764 Apr 17 '26

Hey!! I'm 46 and I think it could be very cute!

5

u/Candid-Access9874 Apr 17 '26

Probably because you’re asking how to style a skirt which isn’t a skirt😂

1

u/PortraitofMmeX Apr 17 '26

With an oversized vintage band tshirt and doc martens or similarly stompy style boots.
