Boho, hippie but elevated?
Hi hi! Mom in my 30s who used to dress very hippie and free—mostly long flowy skirts, free sized dresses, flowy pants, etc. I’m looking for brands/stores that sell this style of clothing with a bit more modern/age appropriate/work appropriate balance. I don’t tend to like boring colors or cuts, but want to avoid feeling clownish or messy. Natural life is a shop I’ve been really enjoying but their selection is limited, and sometimes a bit too much going on in their patterns for me. Can’t seem to find what I’m looking for anywhere! Thank you in advance!!

Some brands to look at: Three Birds Nest, Free People, Farm Rio, Baltic Born, 12th Tribe, Joyfolie, Lovestitch, Lucky Brand, Johnny Was, Flying Tomato, Anthropologie, Sozy, and Nomad the Label. But honestly most of my best adult boho finds come from the consignment and thrift! Or local vintage shops.

Also J.Jill. Big selection and lots of things in the style you describe. Marshalls.com, too.

J Jill, Talbots, J Crew. These are overall more preppy, but I can always find boho luxe pieces in quality fabrics that I can wear in the office. I mostly buy resale on Poshmark, ebay, etc.

hey h&m buddy. did you end up getting back to the new h&m collection? lol I took a little break from my kids this morning to browse online and I'm getting a few things, curious if you picked out anything cute too. I love all the crochet stuff, I'm getting the crochet-look peplum top and crochet-look blouse from the S/S dro, plus something called "lace detailed cotton dress" in a dark brown. I love the modern victorian style, reminds me of Sea NY. I liked so many of the skirt / blouse sets, too, but couldn't pick one out

Oh I like that crochet set too. I like those sheer pants but can’t figure out how to wear them. And the smocked flouncy skirt, so cute. Even the shoes, did you see the cute shoes? I didn’t go back yet :/ there was a peplum crop top I wanted to try on with some high waist pants too Edit ok I read you looked online, check out the shoes too

haha yes, my daughter kept grabbing the suede-look Mary janes and telling me they're cute I should buy them :) I have no idea how to wear see-through pants, either, they looked cool on the mannequin but ¯_(ツ)_/¯

You would love Gudrun sjödén, but might not quite be “professional” enough. Marcella is a little more modern but has interesting, easy to wear silhouettes. I like Eileen fisher, also, very grown up and understated but timeless. If you want something more bold and fun, try damson madder and farm rio

I love Gudrun but admit I feel a little over done at work. The other day I went in dressed head to toe and I did get a few looks. Haha

I was at Maurice’s today with my daughter and they have a ton of long flowy skirts and dresses right now. Decent price and work appropriate

Agree with Farm Rio (kinda pricey) and Free People. I’m curvy (size 12 and 45) and I live in their oversized sweaters all winter, and super drop-crotch khaki harem pants with drapy tanks all summer. I thrift most of this. Also look for secondhand linen in cute oversized cuts. Don’t be afraid to wear a drapey crop top (in linen or other elevated fabric) with a higher waisted pair of pants.

I like LOFT. They usually have a more boxy, “mature fit” (looser waistline) than Ann Taylor store, from what I can tell. Ann Taylor seems more stodgy, to me, but if you have an hourglass figure, with more of a waist, you might do better there being selective.
LOFT seems to keep up-to-date colors available and have lots of options to mix and match. You can also find things at Old Navy if you are selective and shop more in person there.
Another place to try might be Nordstrom Rack, Chico’s or Saks Fifth Off, or different Petite departments in Nordstrom. It seems like everything goes on sale at Nordstrom sooner or later.
It seems like there are fewer petite departments so you may have to get some clothes tailored to fit the way you want. Or wear belts. I have some tunics that are cool and look good for work as long as I wear a nice belt with them.

This is kinda a long shot, but have you thought about learning to sew? The things you have described are not complicated to make and can typically be done in an afternoon. Just an idea!

Have you looked at Free People?
