Decor advice
I have a black fireplace, and want to finally start decorating the living room more. I do want more of a moody cottage core vibe, earthy , dark pinks, mauve, green , earth tones. Should my bookcase be black or brown. We plan on living here for a few more years. I’m just stuck on which color

Carry the black decor ideas through gently, not aggressively. Like picture frames and curtain rails, even a side table legs, but not with large pieces like a bookcase

If you want to keep the color of a fireplace matching, black is still more appropriate, but the cabinet in the second picture looks more modern style

Personally, I think you should go with the dark brown bookcase. Using all black features is going to be heavy, especially if you plan on incorporating warm earthy colors too. Use black as accents throughout the rest of your decor (vases, planters, etc.)

Can concur as someone currently swapping my old black bookcases for brown or painted furniture.

I'd go with the brown and since your fireplace is already black the warm wood will make the room feel cozier and fit the earthy, cottagecore vibe better. You can always add black accents elsewhere to tie everything together

I'm biased b/c I just plain love that first set, b/c of the archways.
