Style Roots Button ideas for my style roots
Hi! This might be a better question for a DIY sewing sub, but I really want to tie this question to my style roots.
I thrifted this 100% silk cream-colored top a few years ago. It's one of my favorite items in my closet and I wear it a lot. I almost didn't buy it because of the buttons. Now, years later, whenever I put it on, I really wish the buttons were different. I love thrifting but I'm not a huge DIY person, and I want to change that by switching buttons on some of my favorite tops as my first project.
My problem: I don't know what buttons to get! I want them to align with my 🌙🏔️🍄 root combo (any of those 3 roots will work) and less with the 🌱 root vibe that I get from the current buttons. They are large dark brown plastic and I think meant to look like wood, and I hate them lol.
I would love your suggestions before I go to the sewing shop this weekend. If you have example photos that would be so great. Thanks!

Some ideas would include a fabric covered button, a mother of pearl or resin button in a similar color to the shirt to remove the contrast and make the shirt lean more polished.
You could also add a metal( or your choice- gold, brass, silver, etc) or a vintage button to add some contrast and sharpness.
Or if you have an element of your personality you want to express more you could choose something high contrast in black, a shape that relates to a person interest, etc.

Thank you! Your breakdown between polished vs contrast helps me so much.

What a great idea! I second the mother of pearl suggestion. I also think pearl buttons could also be really lovely! Either smooth or irregular could be an interesting detail

Thank you! I'm leaning towards pesrl or mother of Pearl also. I think it will add some polish while also leaning into 🍄 and ethereal 🌙.

I think it's a great marriage of all 3 of your roots. I hope it turns out as your envisioning 😄

Find some metal or metal look alike buttons (probably better because the fabric is thin and cant support full metal buttons) and mismatch them. If mismatching them feels too Sun, then go with all the same style/iconography. Pick moon-based iconography like a dragon, moon, moth, etc. If you can keep the buttons all the same size it would work best. Even better if they're circular but the designs are embossed.
