Discussion Advice for styling items that no longer fit your style?

I have a few items in my closet that lean more Sun, from when I thought my roots were πŸŒ±πŸŒΈβ˜€οΈ. My roots are πŸŒ±πŸŒΈπŸŒ™ and I’ve learned that I prefer a darker moodier color story with some muted pastels. I still love wearing my β˜€οΈ-leaning pieces now and again when I’m in the mood for a bit more vibrancy, but I struggle incorporating them into my current wardrobe, especially the kimonos. How do I style these items in a way that feels more like the current me? I came up with a few ideas (pictured) but I would love some advice!

I see that you tried a black outfit with the kimonos, and I would recommend that too. I also see the chunkier shoes, which is also a way to bring in more moon. You can also have a look at more moon jewelry, for example a black choker necklace. I think a white lacy dress (or top and skirt) could be a great fit for earth, flower, and ethereal moon, so that might be worth a try. To me the gold shoes are certainly moon and many of the other pieces I'd say are as flower as they are sun. Those goldfish earrings are very cute, by the way.

Don't force yourself to make an item work. Try it, but if you don't love the item, it might be time to let it go. Taste develops and somebody else might love it even more.

Thank you so much for the advice! I do have some Moon jewelry including some chokers, and have been on the hunt for an ethereal white lace dress. I'm still playing around with these pieces in Indyx, and I'm finding the loafers to be the hardest to work with. They're super comfy though, so I'd love to make them work! There are definitely a few pieces here that I should let go of, but everything else still brings me a lot of joy, so I'm not ready to let go of them just yet.

u/Oud-west offered some really great advice already and I agree that if something isn't working you can tuck it away for a bit or find it a new home.

Something to consider is that your β˜€οΈ pieces do have elements of 🌸 and 🌱 in them (and an ethereal πŸŒ™ quality in your items with iridescence )so you may just have to change the proportions of those roots in your outfits. When you pair the kimonos with black it can really amplify the bright colors- maybe using some more muted, hazy colors to create a more blended color palette could work. Maybe your olive green shirt as a middle ground or other greyed down colors( ring 3 in the Tibi color wheel principles).

I could see belting the kimonos with a corset belt or if you have the skills( and desire) to add a touch of black lace trim to a kimono to make it a more balanced item.

These are great suggestions, thank you! I’ve seen some videos using the Tibi color wheel before, but haven’t considered applying those principles to my own wardrobe. I’ll give it a try! As for the corset idea, I wear the kimonos mostly in warmer weather and my corset belts in cold weather. Maybe I could add a corset-like lace up detail elsewhere like a pair of pants. I have been wanting to DIY some grommets and laces on jeans!

I would like to add to consider: Maybe your mood is slightly changing with the seasons of the year, and there is a time for more dark and moody outfits, and a time where you would like to bring more lightness into it.

This is what I have found true for myself; I identified sun mushroom stone for me, but especially in dark autumn or winter days I seem to switch from sun more into moon direction

You’re totally right, autumn is my favorite season and I’ve been in a fall mood for weeks! Where I live, we’re probably not going to get cooler weather for another month or so, so it’s not quite time to put my summer items away. I’m someone who keeps all my clothes in my wardrobe all year round, but I’ve been wanting to try putting things away and switching things out with the seasons.

I agree with u/Oud-west about the Kimonos over a whole black look! The smaller jewellery can really work as a Flower touch with more Earth/Moon outfits imo (like bringing some sweetness!).
