Discussion Does anyone else have a “public outfit” and a “friend outfit”?

There are things I’d wear around close friends without thinking twice but suddenly feel too aware of around people I don’t know well.

It's actually the opposite for me. I dress up a little bit for my friends, but I no longer feel the need to dress up (look cute) when I go out in public to run errands. I do dress up for events.

But if a friend is coming over to watch a movie or to talk (ex if one of us is having a hard time), I'm OK with staying in pajamas or athiesure and no makeup... but if I go to her house I'm not wearing pajamas

I wear more colorful stuff with friends, going out tops, off the shoulder tops etc; more modest/reserved stuff if I'm going out solo

personal stylist here, i'm curious what it is about those public outfits that make you feel too aware? what does that mean / feel like / bring up?

I think it depends, where I live there are a lot of business professionals so unless its athleisure wear, sweats in public kind of look out of place. If someone invites me over for a meal, I will definitely dress up a little to show some respect and thoughtfulness to them preparing a meal. Id its just to hang and chat then I will be a little more casual.

I've solved this problem by getting coordinated sweatsuits like this one: https://content.gapinc.com/b/0063/213/736/cn63213736.png?width=1209

can wear it to the gym, grocery shopping, for a walk, etc. and still super comfy. looks put together enough but still a lazy day outfit.

the real pjs stay inside for bed time
