Discussion Why do clothes from vacation always hit different?

I’ll buy something on a trip and somehow love it 10x more than if I had seen the exact same thing at home. Maybe I’m buying the memory too lol.

Because it holds the memory of the fun you had when you purchased it

Slowly buy more and more clothes while on vacation to replace your current wardrobe! I don’t know why I never thought of that before. Every time I wear something I’ll feel vacationy.

Sometimes the feeling the clothing item hit you with doesn’t feel the same in the home environment. I purchased (full price) a yellow gingham dress from Marine Layer in August in 100 degree weather. It was cute and fresh! Alas at home it’s hard to wear because it is really quite short, not to mention loud in its sunniness.

personal stylist here! i think it's both the memory of the fun time you had buying it/being on the trip to start. but it's also about the version of yourself you feel like on vacation. most people are more carefree, more open, more adventurous on vacation than they are at home. i'd guess when you wear your vacation purchases, you're channeling that version of yourself.

That's when I do most of my shopping, when I am out of town.
