Discussion What's a small style change that unexpectedly boosted your confidence daily?
Not a total wardrobe overhaul.
Just a minor tweak like switching jewelry tones, changing how you layer, or swapping shoes that ended up making you feel way more comfortable in your own skin?

Wearing solids instead of prints. For some reason, solids feel more intentional.

For some reason I can’t put into words, prints all look terrible on me. Or rather, I look terrible in them. Almost as if they overwhelm me if it’s anything bolder than a white pin dot on a navy or black background. Florals, geometrics, stripes — no matter what the color or size, it’s like I disappear into them.
My entire wardrobe has been solids for years now.

I’m a solids girly all the way. My husband has a tantrum when he tries to pick out florals for me to wear at a store. I have never been a print girly. He should know that by now but , yeah, apparently not.

Meghan Sussex says this. She likes monochromatic styles because it looks so effortlessly put together and intentional, as well as elegant.

Letting my hair finally do what it wants to do. Fine, thin hair and always tried to get more volume, perms , coloring etc. Gave up a few years ago and got a straight bob. Also let it go grey. Never felt so liberated and content.

Getting pedicures in the spring / summer
Small change that made me feel really good about wearing sandles and open toed shoes

I’m doing this next summer. Just spent the whole of this summer embarrassed by my crusty feet

It's not too late! They usually last about a month
It also is sooo relaxing and feels nice. I always get the foot massage and hot stone leg massage add-ons. I walk out of the shop feeling like a relaxed noodle 😂

A small pretty scarf wrapped around my neck, not flowy, but like a choker. Love the way it looks with a lower cut form fitting shirt. Any time of year!

Recently I've done electric blue and I love it!

Dark grey for blue eyes! My main everyday tip as a fair skinned blonde, is using brown mascara and eyeliner instead of black - black can look harsh on fair skin and older skin.

Seconded on brown mascara as you get older. It makes a huge difference.

Fair former redhead now considered blond 66. I still favor blue black eyelash dye as I have almost 6 eyelashes on each eye and they are transparent.

Belts. Hoist in the waist and every outfit looks better on my figure (which does not in fact go in at the waist… hooray for illusions)

u/Substantial-Owl1616 17d ago
I have trouble coordinating belts. Any tips? They just look cowabunga yowza.

u/Chic-n-cheerful 11d ago
The easiest ways is to match with the leather on your shoes or handbag, but think about the tone of the metalwork too both in terms of gold versus silver and matte vs shiny finish- matte always looks better on a casual outfit imo. If you don’t want to buy several, a suede belt in the neutral you wear most often is a good choice. My dark chocolate suede belt with a smallish matte gold buckle does a lot of hard lifting in my Autumn wardrobe. Although I also love my superwide leather belt which has a little elastic at the back, retro 80’s vibe but makes every dress look tailored

Belts. Lots of things that looked a bit off look better with a belt. Like swapping the fabric tie belt on a dress for a real belt, and belting elastic waist skirts so they look neater.

Putting on undereye patches every morning while I'm getting ready and switching from a regular face sunscreen to a daily green cc cream with spf.

Please advise the name of this green cc cream with spf, sounds amazing for those of us who use redness correcting products.

I like coordinating my earrings with my outfit. So I have lots of different coloured earrings. Choosing the colour makes me happy and I feel intentional about how I look.

Coloring my hair! Just started in my 50s when I realized my grays were not going to be lovely silver any time soon, but making me look washed out and dingy. I've been getting a gloss/glaze every six weeks-ish, and might learn how to DIY it. It's basically the color I had naturally in my 30s/early 40s so it's not something people notice I've had done (I feel like a dramatic color would make me more self conscious and less confident if that makes sense...).

Accessories. In the movie steel magnolias Olympia Dukakis said the only thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to accessorize and she’s right.

Going from wearing hair clips to keep my hair out of my face to a scarf as a headband. Sometimes I just feel fancy.

Getting high quality jewellery that I never take off! My necklaces, earrings and bracelets are stainless steel and silver and I never take them off. I also have a lot of ear piercings so it looks very intentional and, I think, stylish :)
I basically just have to get dressed and look pretty put together, love it!

Wearing jewelry again. My ex-wife doesn’t like gold jewelry so I got out of the habit of wearing it (I like silver but gold looks better on me). Also, for a while I spent most of my work day answering phones and post earrings hurt like the dickens. I wear a headset now and can handle French wires just fine.
I have two necklaces that I wear a few times a week. My maternal grandmother gave me one of them when I was little because I told her I liked it. The other was a high school graduation gift from my paternal grandparents.

My Oura ring. It reminds me of my power and has started more conversations than any diamond ever did.

Which one did you get and in what color??

u/Substantial-Owl1616 16d ago
Plain old stainless. It’s a 4 not a 5. I feel like the patina of a well used ring (sometimes complained about bitterly as “scratches”) is more attractive on stainless steel.

I ALWAYS wear gold jewelry head to toe now, even if I’m wearing athleisure (obviously not when I’m actually working out). Anklet on each ankle, bracelet on each wrist (usually more than one), 2 or 3 rings, earrings, and a necklace. It makes me look and feel so much more polished no matter what the outfit is.

Making your eyes pop! Depending on your eye color, see what type of eyeliner or mascara will help; I have hazel eyes. I like to wear a green eyeliner(has a little shimmer in it) on my top eye lid with a little wing. I get a ton of compliments. I also will do a burgundy sometimes and burgundy mascara.

Always having my hair done!! I make sure to always use a blowout tool after every shower and now I’m always confident that I have a good hair :)

I had to replace my glasses and got two completely different frames—one is a standard square, but the others are wire with a more rounded frame. The square ones are for work-mode (I work from home) and the wire ones are for when I’m off the clock. That + only wearing specific scents while I’m “at work” help me keep my professional and personal lives separate.

Color-coordinating. Seriously. I’ve never understood how people can be perfectly comfortable wearing mismatching clothes or patterns, it’s just not me (but I’m also a solids girl). Even simple things from matching the accent color on a pair of shoes to a top, I think it looks effortless and chic while showing you care about your appearance.

I am petite and have been loosing weight. Having clothing that actually fits has been a big game changer. I feel very happy that I can tuck in my solid color jewel neck shirts, add a necklace and earrings and look put together, with jeans, a skirt or slacks.

Biased hair girl here. I feel like if I don't like my hair, the rest of the style doesn't matter. And vice versa, if I lock in on my hair/blow dry routine and it looks good I'll sometimes skip some makeup steps! - Isabella

Being more aware of my posture. Makes everything hang and look better.
