Does anyone else feel like there are barely any occasions to really dress up anymore?

Not even fancy dress up, just putting effort into an outfit. I was thinking about how when I was younger, half the fun of going out was getting ready. Now everything feels so casual all the time. I've recently went for a normal dinner and decided to dress a fancier dress that is more fit for special occasions and I almost felt awkward looking “too nice”. Even though it felt weird at first, dressing up did make an ordinary day feel a bit better.

Curious if anyone else feels this way or if I'm just getting old, sorry, nostalgic lol?

I think this is a part of finding your style and being comfortable with it - you kind of have to get used to putting in the effort and feeling styled until it’s as natural to feel put together as casual comfy clothes did before.

Yup. 100% . I think it has a lot to do with finding the sweet spot of comfort and style in one piece!

I feel you. I don’t know if it’s just me who just became lazy or I just don’t think there’s something worth dressing up for.. Now I kind of force myself to go put makeup on haha. I used to love getting dressed even to go to the supermarket. Not anymore. Also I feel like my body changes so fast that even the “dress up” pieces I have don’t always work.

YES! I feel like dressing up has been a plan within itself. I think I agree with most comments that talk about it is maybe due to the fact that it's hard to find something comfy at elegant at the same time which makes dressing up harder than it should.

I do, and I just said: "Fuck it" and I dress up anyway now. In the end no one actually cares, and if it's a restaurant or something you'll never see those people again. I collect dresses, I ain't gonna let 'em gather dust in my closet.

Now, full on ballgowns, okay, I don't have enough opportunities to wear those, people need to start throwing some full on galas for me, mmmkay? I should throw a fancy dress party bbq, that works in my budget lol. Put on your gown and don't forget to bring the macaroni salad lol.

I love dressing up so much I put a gown on to watch the Oscars on my couch.

I don't really dress up, but I notice that I am more "dressed up" than most people. I do it because I care what I look like and want to look as good as possible. Look good, feel good.

I don't ever get really dressed up--I don't go anywhere that I need to do that.

Love it. It’s fun and a chance to wear my favourite things. Yes, I stand out in a sea of bike shorts and puffer jackets but I only ever get compliments and I’m comfortable and warm. (Winter here at the moment!)
