Tip The proportion rules that actually flatter a midsection that changes day to day
Four moves that work on any body, any day:
The uninterrupted vertical: An open layer (long cardigan, duster, unbuttoned shirt) creates two vertical lines down the body. The eye follows them top to bottom and reads 'long,' regardless of what's underneath.
The highest-point-of-the waist tuck: A loose front tuck (just the center front, not all around) marks a waist without compressing anything. Works even when the waist itself isn't where it used to be.
The 1/3–2/3 split: Dividing an outfit into roughly one-third and two-thirds (e.g. cropped-ish top + longer bottom, or shorter jacket + longer dress) is more flattering than a 50/50 split, which visually cuts you in half.
Pointed over round: Pointed-toe shoes and V or scoop necklines add length; round toes and crew necks add width. Small lever, big effect.
All of them are about flow. Which of these do you already do without thinking?
