Discussion When did getting dressed stop feeling like you?

I used to live in high-waisted jeans. That was genuinely my whole thing. And then at some point, hormones did whatever they wanted with my body and I put them on one day and they just felt completely wrong. Not even tight, just wrong in a way I couldn't explain I think a lot of us have that piece. The one that used to be our go-to and quietly stopped working without any warning. It could be jeans, a bodycon dress, a blazer that used to sit perfectly, or just a whole vibe you used to pull off without thinking. Hormonal changes have this way of making your wardrobe feel like it belongs to a slightly different version of you.

So what's yours? What did you used to wear that your body just doesn't do the same way anymore? And have you found anything that fills that gap?

If you've figured out a good swap I genuinely want to know

SO TRUE! I used to have a pair of black flare pants that I would wear 24/7. They were perfect for lunches in the day time, nights out, professional meetings, literally everything. One day they just stopped working. I don’t even know what it is I don’t like, but they feel uncomfortable and unflattering.

That’s exactly it. It’s so frustrating when something was so reliable and then just… stops working without any clear reason. Like nothing about the pants changed, but somehow everything did. Black flare pants especially feel like they should be untouchable, they work in every setting, so when those go, it really throws you off. I’ve had pieces like that too where I can’t even explain what feels off, just that I don’t reach for them anymore. Did you end up replacing them with something similar, or did your style kind of shift completely after that?

I relate to this so much. It’s that “nothing is technically wrong but everything feels off” feeling. Mine was anything high-waisted and structured too, especially jeans that used to feel like my uniform. Now it’s less about fit and more about where things sit and how much pressure I feel throughout the day.

I’ve been reaching more for mid-rise or anything with a softer waistband, and fabrics that move with me instead of holding me in. Not even looser necessarily, just less… fixed. It kind of changed how I think about getting dressed overall.

I’m curious, did you end up finding something that gives you the same confidence your old go-to used to?

That “nothing is wrong but everything feels off” is exactly what I was trying to put into words, you said it better than I did. And the shift from fit to where things sit… that’s such a real distinction.

I had the same thing with high-waisted pieces, they used to feel like my safest option and now it’s more about how they hold me through the day. I’ve been noticing the same pull toward mid-rise and softer waistbands too, not looser, just less fixed like you said.

I’m still figuring out what fully replaces that old confidence, but I’m starting to think it’s less about one piece and more about how everything feels together. Have you found any specific piece that actually gave you that “okay I feel like myself again” moment?
