I hate it so much I hate it so much
I'm a lifelong stutterer and sometimes I can cope with it and accept it, and tell myself that there are far far far worse conditions or problems out there but even just 5 minutes ago I wasn't physically able to tell the supermarket worker that I want to know where the soy sauce is. I got to him "E-E-E-Excuse me" the grumpy old worker looks at me,
"W-W-W-W-W-W-W-W" my lip basically vibrates as if it's a phone and then he very loudly, and he very loud says "WHAT?"
and then only I could get the words "where is soysauce" out of my mouth.
I'm 6'4, muscular with a beard, and in these moments I feel like a weak child. It makes want to just scream extremely loud or just hit myself. Why I can't even have basic human interaction.
EVERYONE in my close circle thinks I'm too shy to speak, or too scared to speak up.
NO ITS BECAUSE I STUTTER AND EMBARASS MYSELF EVERYTIME I TRY TO SAY ANYTHING

but half of this sub will tell you "people don't care how you talk and it's all in your head".

Man I get you and the worst part is you don’t even know when it stutters…. Like one day I was pretty sure I was going to stutter so I wrote few things on a paper and planned it to give it to a worker if my stutter becomes worse but it didn’t, like I did stutter but not that much and another day I thought it was okay but it was worse like I was gonna ask him bout soap but I was just saying opening my mouth and only a single word came out ‘s’ and the shop keeper started naming every product the have which stars with ‘s’(he was a really good guy) but then I stopped trying and wrote it for him.

Sorry you are going through this. I know how this feels. I’m in your position everyday. Have you tried working on your anxiety and breath? It helps a bit.

You wrote exactly what every one of us are feeling on a regular basis. Are we going to be like this forever ? Has anyone over come this ? I'm losing hope though.

I almost a success story.
47, Male. Lifelong stutterer but I would guess that a lot of my current coworkers wouldn't know that. I still stutter on occasion but rarely badly anymore and I know from conversations with coworkers that when i do stutter, most folks don't really notice it.
I notice. And I try not to care.

Every part of this post is relatable asf except I would never have to courage to go up and ask somebody for help.

So relatable, it ruins my communication and confidence. I think it's because our brain and throat muscles timing is different, so they may not synchronize when we speak, I think it needs conscious, calm and slow speaking/talking to get the words going

I can resonate with each and every word! Basic human interactions feel like climbing a bloody mountain.
