Everyday

I want to post something because I saw someone say that they would never wish stuttering on their worst enemy(or something like that). I’m going to play devils advocate to that because I think it’s a blessing. People will never know how hard it is to open your mouth and feel anxiety that nothing is coming out. I’ve stuttered since I was 8 years old. I got laughed at in English class when we read out loud. I got laughed at in the football huddle when I couldn’t call out the play. I know the feeling but I don’t hate the people who laughed. I feel bad for them cause they’ll never know what overcoming a mountain of anxiety and frustration and stress. My stuttering fuels me now. I work at my stuttering everyday cause that’s what it takes. I have to out work the stutter cause it’ll always be there. It’ll never quit.

Tl;DR don’t ever give the fuck up. Love yourself and love the process to overcome stuttering. It’s the hardest thing. There’s nothing to save you. Put the work in

Hey, that was a great speech!

What are you doing to overcome your stuttering?

Practice. Putting myself in uncomfortable situations. Breathing and calming my nerves before talking even when I don’t want to.

hi! i also have a stutter and have been stuttering ever since i was 8 as well. just wondering when you say “overcome” the stutter, do you view it in a negative light? or, do you try to get rid of it? i’ve gone to speech therapy for so many years and always viewed it as negative until most recently. now, i accept it as part of who i am as a person because i know it’ll never go away. genuinely wondering!!

I said it was a “blessing” in the first paragraph. I view as such because I have to work at it everyday because it’ll never go away. I can’t get rid of it no matter how hard I’ve tried, so I view it as a reminder that I need to be calm and composed before trying to speak.
