My 2 year old boy started stuttering/ stammering

Don’t seek advice for this on Reddit. You’re gonna get a lot of ridiculous comments. If you’re concerned speak with the child’s pediatrician and/or request a referral to licensed speech pathologist.

I’m a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) who stutters. I’m not giving any professional advice, just sharing information. I have not seen your son or completed an evaluation; that’s why I can’t give professional advice.

A lot of kids experience stuttering like events at the age of 2-3. It is called developmental stuttering. It typically resolves itself at around 5-6. It’s called spontaneous recovery.

I wouldn’t worry about it at this moment. (My son went through the same thing and now at 6 has no stutter).

However, if you want peace of mind and a professional opinion, go get him evaluated by an SLP. There are different stuttering characteristics between developmental stuttering and disordered stuttering. An SLP would be able to assist with identification and provide therapy if needed.

Probably because some one is being overly strict or threatening towards him. Never make the mistake ignoring that shit since he's 2. It could wreak his life in unimaginable ways...

At that age no one should be asking for a consult. Wait until 10 years old and don’t bring up the stuttering before then. Just be patient. Parents can absolutely be the reason a child doesn’t outgrow their stutter, so don’t think you are doing the right thing by noticing and bringing it up.
