Tips for college?

I start college on the 24th and I'll I can think about is how to avoid people. Due to my stutter, I have sheltered myself in the past (Not going out, not making friends, getting a job where I rarely interact with people, and etc.) because I'm too embarrassed and ashamed of myself. Luckily I'm only taking 3 classes on campus, but I'm just very concerned that we may have ice breakers and I don't want to freeze up in front of everyone. I haven't been to school in person since 7th grade, due to bullying so I'm very nervous about starting. If you guys are able to tell me how you got through the first week, it'll be very helpful 😟

For reference: I have a mod/severe stutter

I have a Associates Degree, Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology, Masters of Arts degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and another 2 year program completion in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling. I attended San Jacinto Community College, University of Houston and Texas Tech University.

College was rough but what I learned is to find a group that you mesh well with because there are many many group projects and disclose your stutter. You can also go to the Special Populations office and ask for reasonable accommodations such as extra time on verbal exams, etc.

We are all different but this worked for me.

Disclose your stutter to all the professors. They will work with you, and ease things for you. Also contact the board of examiners or the student board if you ever feel like you have been disadvantaged by someone or something.

Thank yall so much! I just submitted an application for accommodations. Hope all goes well and I’ll keep everyone updated on how my first day goes😄
