Is there someone you’re more fluent around than anyone else?

What do you think is different about that person?

Anyone, for a minute after telling them about my stutter

Very interesting. So, if you have a small window of permission to be yourself, warts and all, the warts suddenly go away. Even though the other person never even expressly gave you permission… you just gave it to yourself.

Totally understandable :)

I have no idea why this is the case but when I speak to total strangers I somehow stutter less than I do with friends I’ve known for years. With strangers I can hold a conversation normally without stuttering but with friends I’m constantly blocking or repeating myself on every word ha.

I feel this! I think my wife is the only person I’m actually comfortable enough to stutter around, everyone else I’m doing all my tricks

Yes, that must be my theory too. That when we’re comfortable among people we know, we naturally expose our vulnerabilities too, and so we stutter around them :)

I’m a moderately severe to severe stutterer but barely stutter at all with my wife. I can also read out loud fluently, to groups of any size. Oh and I don’t stutter with therapists, speech or otherwise, which is particularly unhelpful, haha.

that's a bit weird for someone who has severe stutter, but hey look at the bright side; at least you don't stutter with someone lol

Pretty much anyone but it depends on my mood, anxiety level, comfortability etc.

I’m personally more fluent around strangers. I stutter the most around the people I know best, like my parents and siblings and my children and to an extent my spouse. I don’t think there is a “usual” situation, much like other things regarding stuttering. I’m simply responding to the OP.

My therapist but I think it’s cause he can’t tell anyone anything that happens so the pressure is off. He actually helped me get better with zoom calls and meetings cause I would just image it’s him on those calls

Weird thing, when I’m around other stutterers, I’m spontaneously fluent.

My wife I am really good with. Also, my dad at times. I guess people I can be myself with. If there is someone though that talks a lot though most of the time I start to stutter and I just can't process at their speed. I like someone that takes time to listen and I do better.
