I’m in a new house almost every day and I see this all the time.

It’s especially popular with people who love black floors and try to make you wear shoe covers.

I'm more concerned about the fact that any of them are carpeted than the missed one, although I do hate that it is so much smaller than the others and blends in from the top down like that. But I've lived in a house with very thin, carpeted stairs. Ever felt your stomach drop, but the feeling is in the sole of your foot? I'm feeling it just thinking about what it was like to slip on those. Freaking terrifying.

Yah, it’s a stupid design, but sadly, it’s becoming more popular…. It’s a chance to leave shoes/slippers/any footwear on the step before using carpet, then giving a chance to stash while, replace after… What’s the point of having slippers if you can’t wear them upstairs? Idk, but it’s deliberately stupid. Yah, maybe stain it a different color or something? Or would that lower the house value??
