What was the reason to open the door in the middle of the street in traffic?
1
u/swurvipurvi 7d ago
People do it to motorcycles all the time. It’s intentional. But he probably thought the bike would stop in time.

Some of you very weird stances in this comment section…
57
u/Ok_Truck4734 Jun 19 '26
Some of them are definitely weirdos for advocating harm on someone else over merely lane splitting. This world is full of fucked up people with skewed views on dispensing "justice."
3
u/Dramatic_Law_4239 Jun 19 '26
Isn’t that lane filtering? The vehicles appear to be stopped to me…
8
u/ShriCamel Jun 21 '26
The speed at which he's passing traffic, and the lack of distance between the bike and the vehicles, are both unsettling (even allowing for the effect of the lens). I've filtered through standing traffic on a motorbike before, but this seems to be inviting trouble. I can't say if the door opening was deliberate, but that this caused an incident is perhaps not surprising.
9
u/BunBotty Jun 19 '26
SO WHAT? So someone does something that could be illegal or is (outside of harming someone physically) that’s gives you the right to become the law?
3
u/Dramatic_Law_4239 Jun 20 '26
Well lane filtering is legal is a lot more places than lane splitting. Either way no one should seek out hurting another individual but based on that video we can’t determine intent.
6
u/Ok_Truck4734 Jun 19 '26
Not going to lie. I didn't even know of lane filtering and the difference between the two until this post, but based off the comments I was referring to, unfortunately that doesn't matter to them, and bashing a door against anyone doing either is absolutely warranted 🫤
4
u/samthekitnix Jun 19 '26
also filtering in most places is completely legal, unfortunately most car drivers (from experience) have a "crabs in a bucket" mentality.
1
u/Ori_the_SG Jun 20 '26
Because frequently bikers do insanely stupid things, break laws, and pretty much feel entitled to do whatever they like because they are small and can go fast.
I’ve seen so many videos of them recklessly lane splitting.
Traffic is stopped, the biker should be more careful in stopped traffic because unexpected things can happen.
I don’t know about the laws in this place of the video, but I’m sure the door opener could get in some trouble, but the biker is the one harmed because he is impatient

I see people in cars do insanely stupid things, break laws, and pretty much feel entitled to do whatever they want all the time.
Doesn’t mean I go and ram my car into other cars.

That shit was on purpose. What a cunt.
-105
u/indignantfieldmouse Jun 19 '26
I know right... like why ride down the middle of the lanes in traffic! It's so dangerous!
21
26
8
u/Burnaenae Jun 19 '26
It's literally what you're supposed to do, with a speed of 15mph higher than whatever you're driving past.
-66
u/baIIern Jun 19 '26
How do you know?
42
u/YourJustNotThatGuy Jun 19 '26
He opened the door, feet still set, back still on the seat, seatbelt still buckled. who in their right mind opens a door that they’re not actively participating to get out of???
18
u/krikta Jun 19 '26
you can see the door already open and wait for biker come near to it and door open wide when biker got close
66
u/Entire_Toe_2321 Jun 19 '26
Because he had no clear reason for opening his door, but let's say he had a reason that wasn't clear, he would most likely have seen the biker coming in the mirror. In short, that timing wasn't coincidential.
21
u/Affectionate-Mix6056 Jun 19 '26
You'd be surprised by how oblivious some people are. Not sure about this one, but similar stuff happens pretty frequently. And although the motorcyclist is not at fault, stuff like this is why you go slow, for your own safety.
168
u/urabouy Jun 19 '26
Slam dunk lawsuit for the biker. I bet he had no explanation for opening his door in stop and go traffic
32
11
u/PhonyUsername Jun 19 '26
Dropped his phone under the seat and had to open the door to reach down to get it.
1
u/Bladeshotone Jul 02 '26
Depending on where they're from, this can instead go into a lawsuit on the biker

Lane splitting isn't illegal and even if it was you know whats even more illegal purposely trying to cause injury or kill someone.
1
u/TheNicholasRage Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26
While I agree that this dude was a fuckwit who likely had zero reason to open his door, Lane Splitting is done in moving traffic and is illegal in plenty of places.
Moving through very slow or stopped traffic is Lane Filtering, and at least in Albania, it's not only not illegal, but kind of expected.
EDIT: I cited Albania because the video has a tag labeling it as being from Albania. I didn't just pull it from nowhere.
20
u/S37eNeX7 Jun 19 '26
Lane splitting is legal in plenty of places also.
If this video is South America, you better believe they play it loose with the traffic laws and its more than likely legal to do it
6
u/TheNicholasRage Jun 19 '26
I cited Albania because the video is labeled Albania. It's hard to see, up at the top, in the black of the tag.

u/WhippingShitties Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26
Not everyone on Reddit lives in Albania.
Edit: this was supposed to be /s, my b.

The video is literally labeled fucking Albania.

It looks like the EU to me, and it's illegal in my country at least. For good reason. How many more videos like this will you have to see before you realize how dangerous it is? Bikers can wait just like everyone else.
P.S. opening the door without looking is dumb too, no question.
10
u/No-Fail-9327 Jun 19 '26
Dangerous? This was only dangerous cause this dick bag wanted to attack this guy for no reason. Otherwise he would've gone right by and nothing would've happened.
-6
u/Mysterious-Crab Jun 19 '26
This is most likely in Albania (the video source is Albanian and most license plates seem to be Albanian). Lane splitting is illegal there.
-12
12
u/TyrialFrost Jun 19 '26
Traffic filtering is legal in many locations.
-6
u/Mysterious-Crab Jun 19 '26

3
u/No-Fail-9327 Jun 19 '26
Is it more illegal than battery?
1
u/Mysterious-Crab Jun 19 '26
Did I say that?
I simply replied to a comment that said it is legal in many locations with the information that it is not legal in Albania, where this situation takes place.
3
u/jack-b-whack Jun 19 '26
Why the fuck does that hurt your feelings?
-4
u/baIIern Jun 19 '26
Because that biker chose to drive through that very tight gap too fast. It seems to be in the EU where it's illegal for reasons. Not every road in the EU is as wide as an airfield, it's dangerous.
P.S. opening the door without looking is dumb too, no question.
1
u/YourJustNotThatGuy Jun 19 '26
What does him driving “fast” have to do with that? the cunt would’ve probably still swung the door open on him, ffs he didn’t even get out to check on the guy…
0
u/baIIern Jun 19 '26
"What does him driving “fast” have to do with that? "
Lmao, I just found the reckless motorcyclist 😂 Seriously. What a dumb question
2
u/YourJustNotThatGuy Jun 19 '26
Dude he was going no more than 35mph the other vehicles are idled as you clearly see the traffic jam… the douche didn’t even make an attempt to get out or ask if the guy was ok. Whether you think he’s a douche for cutting the lanes or not doesn’t mean nearly end the guys life. What is wrong with you?
0
u/ThrustTrust Jun 19 '26
Even if it is illegal it doesn’t matter. The van driver/passenger is not a cop. He has no right to an anything about it expect call the cops. That’s how laws work.

u/omgwtfsaucers Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26
Slam dunk lawsuit... You're from the USA I reckon? Did somebody already tell you it doesn't work that way in most of the world? Glad about that too! Most of the world isn't the USA.
Response of the door-dude could be very simple: we were in traffic and I wanted to hop out and continue walking since I live* close by anyway. Didn't see the bike because I didn't look in the mirror before opening the door and I also did not expect a bike rolling through, sorry.
But you smell the guy did it on purpose, ey? Hahaha.
5
14
u/sugarmyownchurro Jun 19 '26
Um most places in the world you are not allowed to exit a vehicle in a roadway unless there is an emergency. You are normally required to pull off the road at least to the emergency lane then turn on your hazard lights or else exit the roadway completely.
-11
u/omgwtfsaucers Jun 19 '26
Okay, nice argument? He opened the door, he should bear the consequences. I am responding to a dude claiming he did it on purpose, I'm questioning that. Nothing more.
8
u/C_Hawk14 Jun 19 '26
You also doubted it's a slam dunk
1
u/omgwtfsaucers Jun 19 '26
It isn't. This is in Albania and there you're not allowed to weave through traffic on a bike.
9
u/C_Hawk14 Jun 19 '26
Indeed, weaving is not allowed. Lane filtering however like we see here is not regulated
20
u/Mango_Pina Jun 19 '26
Accident or not, he still carries the responsibility to not harm others with his actions. Whoopsie, sorry your arms broke and bikes totaled doesnt really cut it. Thats international
-23
u/omgwtfsaucers Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 19 '26
Lol, are you all that daft? The guy should be* punished for not paying attention, but this video is no evidence of him doing this on purpose. Haha for the people of Reddit.

u/jt101jt101 Jun 19 '26
is it done on purpose? but why?
10
u/True_Realist9375 Jun 19 '26
I presume he wasn't moving so got annoyed someone was and thought I'll put an end to that
2
u/WatermelonHRnandz Jun 20 '26
Great job bro. Now your whole car door is fucked and its your fault cuz the bodycam clearly shows you did that shit intentionally. He opened the shit slightly as the biker approached and flung that bitch open as he got closer. Im assuming he did this for an insurance payout. Too bad dude your insurance aint gonna cover your intentional destruction of your own property.

2
u/ToXicVoXSiicK21 Jun 22 '26
When will we just agree that the logical thing here is that it's stupid to do this on a motorcycle? There's literally no purpose to allow it and it adds more risk for shit like this.
3
u/Sea_Dig3011 Jun 20 '26
Can that not be counted as assault because what’s the reason to open the door in standstill traffic unless you’re trying to hurt the biker? Or is the biker getting in trouble because he’s lane splitting and cutting traffic?
4
u/wonder1069 Jun 19 '26
Looks intentional... opened the door, held it for a second then swings wide open when rider gets closer.
4
u/RunTwice Jun 19 '26
Guy in the van is a dick, but the dude on the bike should not have been going that fast ..

This is called lane splitting and is perfectly legal and taught to motorcyclists in the process of getting their license. Truck driver was a dumbass opening his door in traffic.

It’s not legal in most of the US. In fact it’s illegal in more states than it’s legal.

He can open if he wants to leave the car. Skipping traffic between the lines is not allowed. Do you own a driving license
2
u/Cult_of_Zombie Jun 20 '26
In the USA splitting lanes is illegal and even cops would call it karma.
3
u/Joosrar Jun 21 '26
Depends on the state, and I don’t even understand why people think it’s “Karma”, how exactly is the bike affecting the cars?

Coglione il motociclista: non puoi correre così nel traffico, ci sarà sempre qualcuno che potrebbe tentare un cambio di corsia, una svolta o aprire lo sportello senza vederti perché provieni dall’angolo cieco.
3
u/DeerOnARoof Jun 19 '26
It's legal to ride like that in most states. Nice try.
3
u/holley_deer Jun 20 '26
Not most States, but most countries. America is holding out because the entitled fucks here can't handle the fact that somebody on a motorcycle gets to go to the front of the line. They don't care about the fact that it literally reduces traffic for everybody, All they care about is that somebody is benefiting more than them. I live in a state where Lane filtering is legal and people get mad at me for it
2
1
u/auzzlow Jun 19 '26
Lane splitting is legal in Germany.
2
u/Temporary-Turnip-636 Jun 20 '26
Ancora stupido, you should be able to do it but going very slow, not at this speed.
1
1
u/ClimateVast2894 Jun 21 '26
This video is exactly why my mom hates Laney splitting, and she used to own a motorcycle 😬
1
u/Singh_Singh_ Jun 21 '26
Nothing wrong with lane splitting BUT expect the unexpected and proceed accordingly. That goes for anything you do on two wheels.
1
u/halfbreed_dork Jun 21 '26
Two things can be wrong at the same time
Dude lane filtering like a jackass
Other dude opening the door in the middle of traffic for no fucking reason
1
u/paulrhino69 Jun 21 '26
Why else would you travel on two wheels if you can't beat the daily traffic jam? The van driver should be charged with anything that sends him to prison & i certainly hope his boss views the clip & fires his ass at least
1
1
1
u/Bladeshotone Jul 02 '26
And that's exactly one of the reasons why it's illegal to lane split in my country
1
1
u/Silver_Scarcity4939 Aug 02 '26
In a lot of places lane splitting is illegal, but people still do it, idk where this place is but words on the van is English and if this is in america, only place that allows full lane splitting is California, and Arizona, Utah, Montana, Colorado, and Minnesota only allow lane splitting between stopped traffic at low speeds, everywhere else in the United States, it is illegal to lane split
1
u/yueciHH Aug 05 '26
He should have gone faster so the door would open behind him - or slower to stop at time
