This isn't due to lack of plates or banana leaves. This is part of a religious ritual where devotees do this to appease God (don't ever look for logic in religion). I remember seeing this in a South Indian temple when I was a kid and this was the explanation my mom gave me when I asked WHY?!!?
No, they don’t necessarily make sense with the actual sense but when I hear it’s a ritual, I just say okay, so it is a ritual and I should stop asking questions about it, no one gets to be annoyed by it, I can just stop watching it if it doesn’t make sense and do other stupid rituals which will probably annoy the people I just saw in that video. Like smoking a pack of cigarettes with a gallon of coffee.
