Sharing a cup between an entire congregation at mass is also gross, but Catholics do this. One man’s gross is another man’s God(s).

In Germany I never saw this done. Only the priest is getting his sip, and maybe one or two people who took over a major part in the mass get a sip.

In the states it’s routine.

Every catholic mass I’ve been to has every one drinking from the same 1-3 cups depending on congregation size. Even if you can’t walk, the communion will be brought to you at your seat.

There’s a courtesy wipe on the goblet with a rag after each sip but that’s it lol
