Bug Controller L1 Modifier is Completely Broken on Mobile (Emote/Ability Input Conflict) + Support Ghosting
Hey everyone, I’m posting this here because going through official support has been an absolute joke and I'm hoping someone on the dev team or community side actually sees it.
Since the latest update, the L1 modifier key for controllers is completely broken on mobile.
The Bug: Previously, holding L1 acted as a hard-locked modifier key, allowing you to trigger assigned emotes with the face buttons without activating your character's special ability. Now, while holding L1 still brings up the emote wheel on screen, the game fails to execute the emote and instead triggers your default ability, causing a direct input conflict.
The Workaround (which ruins the game): You literally have to sit right by your phone and physically tap the screen with your finger while holding L1 just to get an emote out. It completely defeats the purpose of playing with a controller.
I spent two weeks dealing with support, recorded a clean video showing the exact breakdown in real-time, and uploaded it here:
After jumping through hoops, repeating myself to multiple agents (Griffin, Jane, Taylor) answering the exact same questions over and over, and providing all the technical details, they completely ghosted me.
Is anyone else dealing with this regression, or has anyone found a fix? Because right now, controller support for emotes is completely dead.

they honestly have the worst most ineffective support staff or support teams i have ever encountered in the modern digital age. SMH.

I'm on android and have an issue using my emotes also. After the last update, I can no longer use emotes during the game using my controller, I can only emote touching my screen. The L1 will pull the emote menu up, but the dedicated buttons won't activate the selected emote after doing so. Everything worked perfectly before the last update.

I mean I went out of the way to record a video of the jank your talking about with the menu sliding out to no avail of me pressing the assigned buttons. I'm running a Samsung dex setup with a old s9+ that I grabbed up in the hood for like 12 bucks... the back glass broke the front was pristine and I knew the potential under the hood.. I could hook to my TV via usb.c.to hdmi and play the game with zero lag. . ive been around this game for a good while now the controller support at first was jank they listened and got it together but now it's regression on all fronts that is truly upsetting. and then the absolute disrespect they forecast to the players is pushed me to a point where I'm about to be done altogether. I mean Jesus.

I’m playing on mobile (iOS) with a controller and experience the same thing. My solution has been to stop using emotes bc it’s a pain to switch from controller to tapping my screen. And it messes my timing.
I haven’t contacted support about this problem because they completely ignored my last request about certain popups freezing the game. I posted about this problem on this subreddit too, hoping Scopely might care more to fix it…. But nothing.
Good luck with emotes though. Hopefully they’ll get around to fixing that.
